The author has a strong voice, and keen insight into psychological motivation. The story is set in an academic environment in New Mexico in the 1950s, and also in Britain under Roman rule; these settings are vivid and well done The plot is crisp and clearly developed, leading inevitably to its surprising revelations. The characters are complex and compelling. There are three main characters: Mouia, the Celtic maiden; psychiatrist Dr. Neil Gordon; and astronomy professor Dr. De Soto. Mouia tells her story in a lyrical and poetic manner with beautiful accompanying illustrations. Dr. Gordon is probably my favorite character. He presents himself as rather cynical and jaded, but shows surprising moral strength, in my opinion. As for Dr. De Soto – read it and find out for yourself. I'm afraid I can't say more without revealing too much of the plot.I could not put this book down.

The lyric poetry is an absolute delight.The characters are well drawn and the dialogue between theyoung women is so accurate the reader is led to care very muchabout what happens to them. That makes the mystery compelling,Academic politics, psychological motivations, domestic life duringthe fifties are each absorbing topics. Combined in one story they areenthralling. Enjoy the poetry, solve the mystery, examine your ownmotivations, past and present. Linger over the artwork and hopeMs Devore so richly entertains again soon.
