The book presents the unique perspective of the illness and eventual cure both from the suffer's perspective and that of the carNHP: Journey into Dementia and Our Again presents a unique treatment of a timely subject. The book addresses the personal side of dealing with dementia and in this case, with its eventual cure. Told both from the perspective of the sufferer, Sharon, and from that of the caregiver, Hugh, the narrative follows Sharon's descent into acute cognitive disfunction and the couple's journey as they searched for answers. This gripping account gives a warning that in cases like this, further diagnosis should be pursued. Valid advice! A well written documentary indeed.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Special Book about Special People By Amazon Customer NPH: Journey into Dementia and Out Again is a very honest, courageous and helpful book. Honest and courageous in that Sharon French Harris relates the details of sometimes embarrassing and/or painful memories of her experience. The little book is helpful since the symptoms of Sharon’s illness mimicked early onset Alzheimer’s disease, other dementia traits, or Parkinson’s , and included disorientation, incontinence, weakness and staggering, falling, and lack of balance. Her healing came with a correct diagnosis and treatment of NPH = Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, defined as “an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles (cavities) of the brain.” This long journey, from 1999 – 2013, was marked by a spiritual roller coaster, dark nights of the soul, God’s counsel of patience, and final victory in a reversal of most of the effects of NPH. It is also a remarkable story of a husband and wife facing complex and difficult times with love and respect for each other which deepened through the ordeal. It is most helpful to the reader for both the medical information and the faith components of this couple’s experience.

Courageous true account of a couple's "journey into dementia & out again" By RealGem Very well written true story of Sharon's struggle with debilitation and her husband managing to keep faith that she would get better.I'm not sure if it's because I know these people; however, this book truly moved me. It must have taken a great deal of courage for Sharon to tell her story. And, although Hugh gives the impression in the book that he never gave up hope, he must have gone through some very dark times.Thanks to both of them for opening themselves up to tell this very personal story. And thanks to all those people who helped them during that struggle and back into the light.
