Very Much a Kid's Book, but a Fantastic Kid's Book By Ven Let me say now, if you're an adult (or kid, I guess) who's not into children's activity books, this isn't something you're gonna want. There's nothing new here for you to learn. It's all little creative activities. That being said, this is a really fun activity book. Very encouraging and creative writing and drawing prompts. Some are kind of "silly third grade writing assignment" (paraphrasing heavily here, "Pearl is good at stuff because of lot's of practice. What do you want to practice to be good at?")Some are really fun, ("Draw yourself as a gem! You can use your birthstone or whatever you want! What are your gem powers?")I haven't actually written in my copy, but I love having it around because of the absolute good vibes it exudes.Pages are full color, layouts are gorgeous, and while pretty much everything is stock art, it's used really well.Paper is perfect for writing/coloring/etc.AND!! GUYS!! It's hardcover!! How many hardcover activity books are there? Not enough!I absolutely love Quest for Gem Magic, but if you're not into stuff like this, it's not for you.

Perfect for children.I'm a fan of the series and this book comes with different activities from writing down your drean bedroom, to write stories about the gems, draw you as a crystal gem, write a song, create a dungeon maze.Simple, fun, colorful, Steven Universe themed.Hardcover (which feels great in hand) with about 80 pages counting the blank pages.Size: smaller than letter size, Tall is about 8.3 inches. ]

By Swank Ivy I initially didn't intend to review this, because it's not a book with real content, but I figured I might as well since I did read it and have an opinion on it.I probably would have liked the idea of this book if I'd been a kid who was into the show. I always really enjoyed prompted activity journal things, and this book gives you the opportunity to list opinions and draw creative little replies to the prompts. But I think some of the prompts are kind of unrealistic, and I'm not sure how many kids are, say, going to tape photographs into this book, write songs about overheard phrases from their lives, or go on a full-blown day-long scavenger hunt to find some of the difficult items on a list. That said, I think this was the first tie-in book that established fonts and colors for each of the main characters, and those standards were later used in additional materials that tied into the show. Steven has a cute child-print font in pink talk bubbles. Garnet's got the bold, blocky print with red bubbles, Amethyst's got the messy writing with flair in purple bubbles, and Pearl's got practical, thin text in blue-green bubbles. I like the consistency, and the cute art of the characters commenting on your hypothetical input.None of the art for this book appears to be newly created for it; it's all screenshots from the show, and that's a little disappointing, but it's to be expected. And it does have consistency for the characters' outfits; Pearl's is always post-regeneration, and Amethyst and Garnet are pre-regeneration (even though the book was released well after Garnet and Amethyst had reformed).Character asides that were particularly cute included the following: a page about Pearl's hard work and dedication prompting you to talk about your own; a page listing the lyrics to "Dear Old Dad"; and the "evil spirit scroll" where you're supposed to draw something weird and Garnet is at the bottom saying she'll have to burn it.Activities for kids include the following: Writing about your ultimate bedroom; designing trading cards for a wrestling duo based on yourself and your best friend; creating a list of ten things that make you special; filling a brain illustration with stuff you think about; inventing a food-shaped backpack and drawing it; writing a magical adventure that spans a full day; listing what you want to practice to perfection; formulating your own Together Breakfast ingredients; designing a gauntlet over a trace of your own hand; giving yourself a cool new last name; answering prompts about who among your friends and family has which traits; creating a Gem character based on yourself; "fusing" yourself and your best friend in accordance with attribute prompts; designing a spear around a trace of a pen; drawing yourself shape-shifted as something; writing an essay on who or what you would protect; writing a description of your ideal place just for you; an impractical scavenger hunt; a writing prompt about your worst fears and nightmares; a word search of character names; designing a spaceship; drawing or taping pictures of friends or family in cartoon gem photo frames; designing a dungeon maze; writing a song based on overheard phrases and another song about anything; listing people you know who are nice and mean; writing a recipe for or drawing a donut; writing about something weird others didn't believe you about or something you didn't believe; listing your favorite and least favorite foods; creating your own video game concept; creating your own band and album, with an emotional song; writing down a concept for a Steven Universe story about Connie and designing cover art for it; a list of places you'd ride a magical lion to; coming up with your own catchphrase; conceiving your own isolated island; answering what you'd do if your food turned into a monster; creating a creepy evil spirit scroll; drawing a picture of if you had a pet monster, and answering questions about it; and writing your own Steven Universe story.
