Lovecraft was afflicted by Asperger Syndrome is explored in this slim publication by Gary Myers and his wife Jennifer McIlwee Myers. Gary Myers is a Lovecraftian writer of 40 years experience, who has written "The Country of the Worm: Excursions Beyond the Wall of Sleep," "Dark Wisdom: Tales of the Old Ones" and "Gray Magic: An Episode of Eibon." Jennifer McIlwee Myers is an educator of Autism-related subjects and has written "How to Teach Life Skills to Kids with Autism or Asperger's" and "Growing Up with Sensory Issues: Insider Tips from a Woman with Autism."With a combined knowledge of H.P. Lovecraft and Autism/Asperger's, the Myers' presents a well structured book that begins with defining the syndrome in simple straightforward terms. After laying the foundation regarding the syndrome, the authors analyze each aspect of Lovecraft's life by dividing it into a number of identifiable roles. The logical roles examined include: prodigy, recluse, gentleman, antiquarian, journalist, husband, fantasist, and epistolarian. The Myers' then compare examples of Lovecraft's characteristics and recorded behaviors against the Asperger's canvas in order to point out similarities between the writer and a person with Asperger's. They conclude by summarizing what they learned from analyzing Lovecraft's interaction with the world around him.The Myers' book commences a fascinating dialogue, which sadly ends all too quickly, leaving me wishing they had examined at greater length the assumption that Lovecraft suffered from Asperger's Syndrome. The authors state in their afterword that their book isn't meant to be a scholarly or scientific study, however they did present a valid case worth further dialogue and discovery. I hope someone(s) will follow up and expand on this subject in the future.

Zupke My brief review is that this book is informative, interesting, useful, easy to read, short, and you don’t have to know who H. P. Lovecraft is to appreciate and learn from it. I highly recommend it. My detailed review is as follows.This book is an interesting mix of a biography of the famous horror author H.P. Lovecraft and a description of the ways autism can affect people in different stages of their lives.
