"Mom’s Journey" is a guide for anyone who has a loved one going through dementia/Alzheimer’s disease. This guide is geared slightly more toward men because of the frustration I encountered with self-help books during my mother’s illness. I found those books either written by women or health care professionals, and from my point of view they had too much emotional content or too much professional jargon which caused me to skip pages and chapters. Due to that frustration, "Mom’s Journey" is a short easy read with useful information gathered from my personal experience and research. Thirty percent of the net proceeds from the sale "Mom's Journey" will be donated to the Greater Cincinnati Alzheimer's Association.

About the Author Whitney is the self-proclaimed “just a regular guy” that still doesn’t know what he wants to be when he grows up. He was born in 1957 in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky, and is the son of school teachers. The family moved to Fairfield, Ohio in 1959 where he grew up and was a 1975 graduate of Fairfield High School. He promptly enlisted in the United States Navy where he worked as an Air Traffic Controller. Honorably discharged in 1979, Whitney attended Southern Ohio College where he received an Associate Degree in Broadcasting. He also had a cup of coffee at Miami University (Ohio) and the University of Cincinnati. Whitney worked as a lifeguard and gas station attendant during high school, and after the Navy – laborer, landscaping, radio production and sales (WMOH Hamilton and WOFX Cincinnati, Ohio and KSRR/KONO San Antonio, Texas). For the past 20 years, Whitney has owned his small painting and handyman business, Whitney Painting, etc. He currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.

A Small but Powerful Book By Maureen Miles Mom’s Journey is for anyone who is scared and confused with the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or Dementia and is looking for candid and straightforward information in one place. One small - but powerful book.The author reveals a tender and loving side of himself as he describes the humor and the laughter he shares with his Mother, as well as his vulnerability as he watches her retreat deeper into the abyss of dementia. He shows tremendous strength and love during the more difficult times when his mother becomes sick and depressed, while suggesting creative ways to defuse combative and tense situations.Too often, family's fail to see or look the other way when a loved one exhibits odd behavior or personality changes. After reading Mom’s Journey, you will have an understanding of what Alzheimer’s/Dementia looks like from beginning to end. You will know where to go for help with the numerous references and resources found in the book, and you’ll get a glimpse into the life of a loving Son and Daughter that travel down numerous paths to seek out the best possible care for their Mother.

With loving detail and heartbreaking honesty we get an authentic voice to help guide us through the ups and downs of caring for a parent who is lost...yet sits right next to us.

The author does a great job of telling his struggle with his mother's path of dementia. You will tear up, chuckle, and learn all at once while reading. A great gift and guide for anyone who is experiencing friends/family with Alzheimer's/dementia.
