By Robin Leigh Morgan Meditation has been something which had first interested me during my years at college a few decades; now being retired for almost five years I feel I need to pick it up again.I found Shelley Wilson’s “Wellbeing Workshop: Meditation - a beginner's guide” to be, as I best can describe, a wonderful booklet which gives its read a decent understanding of this subject. Within its pages you read about both the physiological and psychological benefits, and briefly discusses the different levels of meditation: Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta; as well as a few exercises which can be.Ms. Wilson’s endeavor here allows its readers to decide if meditation is something they’d like to get into to improve their own well-being by searching out classes in their community and books which go into much greater detail than has been presented here.It should be noted that Ms. Wilson writing uses the British spelling of words which might look strange to those unfamiliar with it.On the other hand, I found her booklet to be a marketing tool for her own meditation business in the UK, which is why I can only give it 3 STARS.

By Amazon Customer I'm a life-long insomniac made worse recently by cancer and chemotherapy, and I'm not a stranger to meditation. I frequently use scripted or pre-recorded meditations of all kinds to help me relax and sleep better. I've also made up my own when nothing else seems to work.Ms. Wilson has done a fabulous job of presenting a very basic guide to remove the shroud of mystery that tends to hover around meditation. You might think these quick meditations won't help much, however one of the best guided MP3's I've used is called the 10-minute relaxation meditation, or something along those lines. I used it during my lunch breaks when I worked the night shift, and you'd be surprised how much more energized you can feel after "just ten minutes". Nice job, Ms. Wilson!If you're considering meditation but don't know much about it, and what you see on TV often isn't the way it really happens, then pick up this book! You'll be able to quickly determine if meditation is for you, and she also gives resources beyond the basics for those who aren't new to this skill. I think it we all took a 10-minute meditation break throughout the day, our lives would feel so much richer!

A great choice for beginners By Mary Jean Adams This book is a great one for beginners or even those who never think they’ll find the time to meditate. (like me) I especially loved Shelley’s no-guilt-trip approach to learning meditation. Let’s face it, some of us will NEVER slow down enough to do what the experts say we ought to do.This book was just what I needed. If nothing else, the advice on breathing changed my approach and was well worth the price the book and the hour or so it took to read. I’ve never had a problem with belly breathing as I’ve been a runner all my life. But when I sit down and consciously try to do the breathing exercises taught by so many meditation gurus, I can never get the cadence right. I always end up with a headache and more tense than when I started. The imagery Shelley shared has really helped. Now I practice breathing practically everywhere.
