The amazing story of Akhnaton (Amenhotep IV ), Pharaoh of Egypt 1360 B.C. This is not just the fascinating story of a man’s life— it is far more. It raises the curtain on man’s emerging from superstition and idolatry. Against the tremendous opposition of a fanatical and politically corrupt priesthood, Akhnaton brought about the world’s first spiritual revolution. He was the first to declare a “sole God.” In the words of Sir Flinders Petrie (History of Egypt). “Were it invented to satisfy our modern scientific conceptions, his religio-philosophy could not be logically improved upon at the present day.”

By A Customer This book is an amazing combination of vivid, rhapsodic prose, rigorous scholarship, and philosophical speculation--with a fascist political subtext. Savitri Devi treats Akhnaton as a serious philosopher and carefully pieces together a very consistent and plausible reconstruction of his thought from his Hymns to the Aton and other texts, as well as an examination of Amarna iconography. Aside from her mistaken claim that Akhnaton was a fellow advocate of vegetarianism and animal rights (an error which she corrects in her later book IMPEACHMENT OF MAN), Devi's interpretation is still the most comprehensive, systematic, and plausible account of Akhnaton's philosophy. Although Devi does not deal explicitly with Nazism in this book, she makes the occasional allusion. In her later book DEFIANCE, however, she describes how she began SON OF THE SUN in India in 1942 when she was certain that National Socialism would conquer the world, and her aim was to present Akhnaton's solar cult as the ideal pagan religion to unify the new Aryan imperium. This is, in short, an amazingly ambitious book! I must, however, stress that this is merely the political SUBTEXT. Those who find Devi's politics distasteful can still benefit enormously from her account of Akhnaton. And those who share Devi's rejection of Biblical religion, and who dream of a revived paganism that is consistent with both the spirit of scientific inquiry and a politically unified yet culturally diverse world, will find much here to fire their imaginations. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE DISINFORMATION OF THE REVIEWER WHO CLAIMS THAT THIS BOOK ASCRIBES AN EXTRATERRESTRIAL ORIGIN TO AKHNATON. THIS IS TOTALLY FALSE.

13 of 13 people found the following review helpful. an excellent sympathetic and laudatory account of akhenaton By aten54@aol.com I have read half a dozen books on Akhenaton and I must say that this was the most "feel good" account of this unusual pharoah. While other modern writers have recently been on the attack against Akhenaton,(the revenge of Amun?) disparaging his thinking and accomplishments, this author offers a thoroughly thought provoking viewpoint, leaving the reader with a strong desire to have met the pharoah himself. The author is a throwback to the earlier , more sympathetic-to-Akhenaton-school of Breasted , and Arthur Weigall. This writer recommends Weigall's "Life and Times of Akhenaton " as your next read after "Son of the Sun". In summary, a wonderful book, written with a quiet passion ,which lingers long after the reading is done.

This fascinating, detailed, well researched book presents the subject in the context not merely of archaeology and history but of this pharoah's eternal significance. For Traditionalists and students of comparative religion this book is necessary, challenging, and yet enjoyable. If you can find a copy, grab it~!If you've read this book and want more from her, RG Fowler's recent works publishing from her archives are well worth their cost as well. People who have no problems with the politically incorrect will lay them aside only with great delay and difficulty.
