We're weighed down every day by work, stress, and other responsibilities... and maybe it's a job we absolutely hate, or maybe it's an illness, or financial instability--whatever it is, we find reasons to be unhappy. What I learned in this book, though, is that we can put things into perspective, stay positive, and be happy. Happiness DOESN'T have to be elusive! Dr. Robert Puff, in Finding Our Happiness Flow, addressed many things we can do to stay happy. Though very simple, it's easy to implement into your lives... working smart, for example, simply enjoying the journey of life, or even just the simple concept of not comparing with others. There are just so many fantastic takeaway points in this book! Dr. Puff also writes in an extremely engaging way: this is not only a good self-help book, but an easy and compelling read as well.

I was always looking for more or for something different in my life and never realized that this wasn't what happiness was about after all. Dr. Robert Puff has written one of the best books on happiness that I have read in his "Finding Your Happiness Flow". Puff takes a look at what happiness really is and the views that different people have on this. He also spends time giving the reader the tools to analyze the things that actually block us off from happiness, such as fear, resentments and the like. This is a must-read for anyone who is seeking more joy in their life or for those who just feel stuck.

Review by Will Jelbert Author - 'The Happiness Animal' By Will Jelbert, Author of The Happiness Animal Review by Will Jelbert, Author - 'The Happiness Animal'Where does Finding Our Happiness Flow rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?In the top 3.What did you like best about this story?Dr Puff begins by stating why happiness can be so elusive: It’s all about want in society. He then invites us to begin the book with the goal of happiness itself. The book is interspersed with Dr Puff’s personal anecdotes to illustrate the core concepts. The voice of the narrator is warm, captivating and easy to listen to. In fact the voice is much like that of Game of Thrones’ Varys (actor Conleth Hill).Happiness, says Dr Puff, is about feeling fresh, new and alive. And he warns us that labeling and notions stop us experiencing what is before us, right now in this moment –‘Once we see a sparrow and name it a sparrow, we stop seeing it’.He goes on to explain that happiness is more a journey than it is a destination and if we want to be happy, we need to enjoy the journey. It’s wrong to miss out on life as we achieve our goals. If we don’t like working towards our goals then we should stop and change the goal.As Macklemore put it ‘comparison’s a motherf*****’ and Dr Puff makes it abundantly clear that if we compare ourselves to other people we are going to suffer. The way to avoid this suffering? Become more aware of the comparison game. ‘Lets celebrate the bronze medals,’ he says. ‘Just living is worth celebrating’. Dr Puff highlights the importance of focusing on what we do have. The author asks us to make a deal with ourselves: If we are going to blame anything for our suffering or for our bad behavior, lets blame our exposure, not ourselves. Dr Puff convinced me that whatever we expose ourselves to impacts our thoughts and our happiness. We have to think of choosing our exposure as choosing our happiness diet. This theme continues into one of the greatest strengths of the book, namely Dr Puff’s analysis of addictions. When it comes to addiction, he expresses how important it is to feel our feelings. And he provides helpful tips on how to break free of negative thoughts. Our minds can only focus on one thing at a time. We can, he says, break our focusing on the negative thoughts if we go for a walk, allowing for some quiet time in nature which refocuses our mind.He explains that it’s actually the negative critical thoughts about ourselves that perpetuate addictions and bad habits. We tell ourselves I’’m bad, I’m bad’, and we believe ourselves, and then do more harm to ourselves . We must, says Dr. Puff, learn to separate the self from the action or addiction. And ask, what can I learn from this bad behavior? What situation, what exposure allowed for this to come about?I especially enjoyed the section of the book on conditioning: If we change our conditioning we will change our behavior, but we must be kind, not self-critical of ourselves. We must be aware that it is our conditioning that caused our behavior. And we can change our conditioning. Dr Puff provides the listener with three practical things to do when bad things happen. The author is spot on when it comes to talking about addictions. Feeling the feelings rather than suppressing them. Confronting the pain is healing the pain. We can work through the pain and then work on improving our lives. He also states that experiencing suffering helps us grow. Dr Puff identifies a direct correlation between the amount of suffering and the amount of growth in an individual.‘We need to realize that life has mosquitos,’ he says. ‘ If Mother Theresa couldn’t be liked be everybody, how can we’. The author provides useful tools for dealing with criticism, and explains why the fear of slipping up causes us to slip up. If we start thinking it’s ok to make mistakes we will grow from our mistakes. It’s OK to mess up. We can accept our fallibility.Dr Puff advises us to be flexible when changes happen rather than resistant. We need to relax our bodies before the change impacts. If we resist it, and stiffen our muscles, the impact will do us more damage. There is a common theme in the book that happiness only exists in the here and now and Dr Puff reiterates the importance of getting in the present as soon as we begin our day. Just breathe. The book also offers surprisingly good relationship advice, and comprehensively addresses the subject (and the benefits) of online dating. In summing up, Dr Puff recommends that each day, if we set ourselves the small target of just finding happiness today, not in the future, then we are more likely to get closer to our goal of happiness . To quote a line from American Sniper, ‘Small targets, small misses.’In fairness, I’d appreciate it if Dr Puff could intersperse some of his points and anecdotes with some of of the readily available scientific research from himself and his psychologist peers, but that’s the only improvement I can suggest. All in all this was an inspiring listen, and a great way to break away from negative thoughts and to refocus on happiness each and every day. The narration and audio quality was also excellent. I recommend everyone listen to this book. 5 Stars!Which scene was your favorite? The scene where Dr Puff says: 'once we see a sparrow and name it a sparrow, we stop seeing it'Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?It made me laugh, and smile. And it brought me back to the present moment, the here and now. I also felt more relaxed in my body and it stilled my mind. Will Jelbert, Author - 'The Happiness Animal'

Prescribing Health: Transcendental Meditation in Contemporary Medical CareFrom Rowman & Littlefield Publishers

Review A thick and well-footnoted tome, Prescribing Health is not a how-to for people who seek to address their health issues through meditation. What it is, however, is a significant resource for those who work or are interested in the health care field, and would like to learn about the great power meditation has to support wellness in ways not fully understood by modern Western medicine. It brings together a large body of medical work, and seats TM into both the Western and Vedic contexts. Those who would like to be able to recommend meditation to their patients or clients will be able to point to the studies in this book as evidence to bolster their case. (Parvati Magazine)A wonderful exposition of how one of the most powerful meditation techniques can keep you healthy. With extensive data on both physical and mental disorders, this important work provides an extensive review on how Transcendental Meditation works. Important for those looking to incorporate this program into their own lives or the lives of their friends, family, and patients. (Andrew Newberg M.D., author of How God Changes Your Brain; Professor of Emergency Medicine and Radiology and Director of Research, Myrna Brind Center of Integrative Medicine, Thomas Jefferson University and Hospital)This book brings landmark research on Transcendental Meditation and mental health to healthcare providers. It introduces our research on war and violence – beleaguered Africans suffering Post Traumatic Stress – 90% of Congolese refugees became non-symptomatic around 30 days of learning TM. Read this book and apply the findings to reduce PTS and many medical and psychiatric disorders. (David Shapiro, co-author of several articles published in Journal of Traumatic Stress; President of PTSD Relief Now, www.ptsdreliefnow.org)Drs. O’Connell and Bevvino bring together the leaders in the fields of Transcendental Meditation research, and its practical application in the areas of mental and physical health, to highlight the usefulness of this simple mental technique which is transforming the lives of so many. Each chapter provides up-to-date detailed evidence of the psychological and physiological benefits of TM. This book will serve as a welcome resource for psychiatrists, family medicine physicians and internists, and sub-specialists alike. (Gary P. Kaplan, MD, PhD, Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology, Hofstra North Shore – LIJ School of Medicine)Psychologists David O'Connell and Deborah Bevvino have produced an outstanding volume of the best researchers and most important studies on the effects of the Transcendental Meditation technique for treating disease and promoting health. The breadth, depth, and scope of the TM research is truly amazing. Prescribing Health is sure to raise the level of awareness and interest in TM among physicians, psychologists, nurses, and other health care professionals by revealing the promise the TM practice can have for easing the suffering of their patients in a natural, holistic fashion — without harmful side-effects. Here is a major, much-needed contribution to the growing field of integrative medicine for enhancing individual and societal well-being. A worthy effort well done! (Robert Roth, Executive Director, The David Lynch Foundation)

By Matthew I almost never and very seldom write reviews for products, but, for this book, I must say to the authors, you've all done an OUTSTANDING job in writing the most comprehensive book I've yet to come across on the subject. Your information seems highly accurate. Moreover, I love this book so much that I'm always reading it wherever I am. This book is definitely worth its price, and I'd even be willing to pay double or more than its current value.

Extremely thoughtful, original and wickedly witty, too, there is something here for every one of us who require a more insightful self-observing ego, from time to time. Take the Chapter on managing our "Screw Ups." As we learn how NOT to let someone off the hook (notwithstanding how lengthy their "soooooooo sooooory,") we cannot escape our own reader mirrors and be sooooooo sooooory at how many times we, ourselves, have "screwed up." The most insightful sections (and there are many) in this artful little gem, are found when Angermann re-defines his version of "80/20" rules, pronouncing that "100% of the people are mediocre at what (we) do at least 80% of the time." I don't know about others, but this perfectionist is, quite frankly, relieved. The pressure is off, everyone! Yay - I love this book. Because it takes so little time to read and overflows with practical humor and wisdom, I've found my perfect "stocking-stuffer" gift, especially for loved ones & co-workers. BTW, does anyone out there have Letterman connections? I'd love to see Angermann "mess" with Dave ("for his own good!")

By ddwlem You don’t have to want to ‘mess with others’ to enjoy Chris Angermanns’ humor of how to do it, but you’ll want more of this craftiness by the time you get to his royal flush solution, even if you don’t play cards.“Mind Your Manners” chapter makes you shake your head and think, “It’s about time someone told us how to say that,” The two hours spent reading this book was a joy. Discussing it was even more fun. A great choice for book clubs. We’d recommend it as reading for human behavior courses too. It’s full of creative social interaction techniques for the victim of careless, annoying, and/or downright stupid human behavior. Oh, and by the way, love the example he gives on how to effectively go crazy.Ddwlem, author of IZ~ The Izzy Story: Book 1, Encounters

To some it's the classic "gateway drug", to others it is a harmless way to relax, or provide relief from crippling pain. Some fear it is a dangerous drug with addictive properties; to others still it is a legal anomaly and should be decriminalized. Whatever the viewpoint, and by whatever name it is known, cannabis--or marijuana, hashish, dope, pot, weed, grass, ganja--incites debate at every level, and the effect it has on the cultures and economics of every corner of the globe is undeniable.

In this definitive study, Martin Booth crafts a tale of medical advance, religious enlightenment, political subterfuge and human rights; of law enforcement and custom officers, cunning smugglers, street pushers, gang warfare, writers, artists, musicians, and happy-go-lucky hippies and potheads.

Booth chronicles the fascinating and often mystifying process through which cannabis, a relatively harmless substance, became outlawed throughout the Western world, and the devastating effect such legislation has on the global economy. Above all, he demonstrates how the case for decriminalization remains one of the twenty-first century's hottest topics.

Cannabis: A History, by Martin Booth

From Publishers Weekly Quick?what do Napoleon’s troops, Asian cooking, Armani jeans, the Gutenberg Bible and the Parke-Davis pharmaceutical company have in common? According to British novelist Booth (Opium; Hiroshima Joe; etc.), all of these have used some part of the versatile cannabis plant. In this densely packed, wide-ranging history, Booth draws on religion, history, ecology, horticulture, linguistics, pop culture and medical research to correct the falsehoods surrounding the oft-banned plant and to painstakingly build his case that the war on cannabis has little to do with concerns for public health or order. Along the way, Booth introduces a dizzying parade of historical persons that includes visionaries, scientists, beatniks, farmers, artists, soldiers and smugglers. Unlike many of the other more partisan books on cannabis, the overall tone of Booth’s volume is objective, unemotional and factual-a stance that makes for fine impartial argument, but also occasionally dull reading. At its best, however, the book’s attention to detail lures the reader ever more deeply into cannabis history. Descriptions of hip, mid-century New York, London and Amsterdam, for example, help illuminate the role of cannabis in more recent cultural movements. And a quick survey of the myths about the drug’s psychological effects shows how laws banning cannabis were often used as an excuse to suppress blacks and migrant Mexican workers. Booth also discusses provocative legal, political and economic actions (for and against cannabis) that have affected millions of people. In his profile of a plant that can be an intoxicant, fiber, cooking ingredient, medicine and potential source of environmentally friendly products, he gives readers a fascinating sourcebook about "the most widely produced, trafficked and used illicit drug on earth." From Booklist Booth chronicles that "adaptive and highly successful annual found . . . throughout the temperate and tropical zones," cannabis, with the panache he exhibited in Opium (1998). Though the noble plant's precise origins are hazy, the name cannabis probably evolved from antecedents meaning fragrant cane. Whatever it has been called, it has been beloved and reviled by personages ranging from twelfth-century Sufi monks, who chewed it for its mood-altering properties, to anti-pot Depression-era federal agent Harry Anslinger and today's drug warriors. Favored by poets (Coleridge sought to wean himself from opium with it), musicians and actors (Gene Krupa and Robert Mitchum, both busted in Anslinger's "star-bust campaign"), and worse (black-magician Aleister Crowley, who put it in his recreational-substance armamentarium). Besides famous users, Booth discusses home-growing ganja and present-day international trafficking in it, though from a British perspective. His pithy coverage of Rastafarians is a particular treat. While no brief for legalization, Cannabis objectively raises points and issues threatening to zero-tolerance environments; more open collections, however, should welcome it. Read on...The author covers the historical development of a very controversial plant delicately.... Cannabis is traced back to ancient times where its usage was (and still is in some parts of the world)more medicinal and related to religious rites as opposed to recreational... The books also delves into the components of the plant itself, optimal growing conditions, growing locations... the active ingredient that gives consumers the BANG!!!come to the middle of the book we are enlighten with how the move against cannabis was first born.... and later explain the stand of governments on cannabis....the book covers cannabis from a historical and cultural point of view!!! I enjoyed it!!! a superb history!!!!

A very necessary book By James Carpenter By helping us see how we got to where we are today concerning cannabis, Martin Booth enables us to question the government propaganda about this plant, and the unconstitutional and oppressive methods employed to discourage its use, both as a medicine and a recreational drug. This is important, because the War on Drugs has done more to destroy our individual liberties than almost anything else our government does. If for no other reason, that makes this book a vital read for anyone who loves the liberties our founding fathers attempted to leave us.

Good General History By Cwn_Annwn There were areas I wish he would have went more in depth with, like how the coffeehouse scene in Holland came into existance and other areas I wasn't as interested in, like hippy pop culture. Also he overemphasizes a lot of things that went on in Britain, which historicly isn't exactly the epicenter for Marijuana activity and culture. The author isn't a stoner, or at least doesn't come off as one, but he seems to be pro-Cannabis at least to the extent of showing the stupidity of the law enforcement witchhunts against what is more or less a harmless "drug". Overall a good general history of Cannabis.

Bianca hates the shifters. Hates them. They're loud and smelly and they shift unpredictably. Still, she serves them with a smile plastered on her face when they come into T. Quila: the bar she runs with her sister. When one of her customers begins giving her a hard time one night, Bianca isn't sure how to handle the disruption. Then Patrick steps in and everything changes. He's nothing like the dinosaurs she's known before. He's tall, handsome, and has an air of gentleness despite his ferocious shifter side. But Patrick is more than just a dinosaur. He's a Dom. And when it comes to Bianca, he wants all of her.

I loved it because it was a great variation of the usual shifter fare. The story was decently dramatic and the scenes were seriously well developed. The more stuff I read from Sophie Stern, the more I love her stuff!

It is a fast moving short story with lots of action. It is erotic and there is some violence as the dinosaur shifters confront each other.

Dear Parents, I have written this book to share with you some very important information and help you make an enormous difference to the development of your children’s brain. As most of you know, the first years of a child’s life set the foundation for its future. Going through these sensitive periods of development it’s easy for children to acquire certain abilities and develop a positive way of thinking, maximizing their potential to achieve health and happiness and manifest their dreams. The child’s brain is plastic, it’s a magnificent engine for learning. This is the right time for you to teach your children how to really love themselves. Give them the right information: We are one with the power that created us. We create our reality with the thoughts we think, the words we speak and mainly with the emotions we feel. Negative thoughts and emotions a) emanate from our attachment to the Ego b) control our behavior and actions c) create blocks to the flow of energy d) affect the physical body creating illness e) create destructive urges and conflicts. Cleaning and healing mind, body and spirit, we allow the vital energy flow freely, re-establishing harmony and unity in the Universe. You might wonder: (How can I explain all these things to a little child?) Just read this book together and enjoy this soul journey. Feel good and be happy. God bless you all. This children's book is a story of Jiri Joe and his journey in the Crystal Star world. It teaches the values of friendship, kindness and responsibility. It is a story of Jiri Joe's adventure in Crystal Stars, the Queen Iris, the seven beautiful princesses and the magical setting in which they lived. Join Jiri Joe in fulfilling his mission to save the Crystal Star world.

Jiri-Joe is a 5-year old boy with an active imagination who sometimes concerns his parents with world of fantasy. He feels so much better when he learns that his grandma, too, shares an equally vivid imagination.Jiri-Joe and Grandma embark on adventures in making a difference in the world of the Crystal Fairies. Jiri-Joe is encouraged to use positive thinking and express himself freely. He learns important lessons that good and evil exist in the world, and we must not lose faith that good can prevail. The book is a great way to communication abstract concepts to children, such as creating harmony and unity in the universe by using positive thoughts and actions. It teaches children to embrace creativity, have faith in a higher power, and enjoy their soul journey. Well-written, imaginative, and entertaining.

Juri-Joe takes on a dangerous mission to make right what is wrong. This is an enchanting allegory that teaches friendship, tolerance, open-mindedness, forgiveness and other qualities that we all wish we could teach our children. This story can be read many times with greater comprehension with each reading. Parents should read the story to their children with the understanding that, as Jiri-Joe does with his grandmother, children will question character motives and intentions and will need their parents' answers.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Well Done By Barbara L The detailed introduction helps us understand that Jiri-Joe is an advanced young person so, of course, he can fulfil the mission given him of returning to wholeness what was destroyed. The story is filled with teaching moments. The morals, lessons, reminders and hopes for a better world belong to all ages. The story is beautifully illustrated. This story is better read to children so that a parent or teacher can pause and give explanation about the events being read. The author did a good job presenting in story form a subject that can be difficult to teach.
