I use them with my students. I was thrilled to see her latest release.Nine Simple Stories is a boon for the beginner reader! Here we have a multitude of teaching opportunities within this book of nine shorts. Each story has large font, picture supportive and is supported with many of the basic sight words, which will have young ones reading these tales with ease. I loved the story called ‘Me’ that mentioned the basic body parts. Take another bow, author Russita- you’ve done it again!
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. ~~ Three volumes in one! ~~ By Richard and Liz Although described as "Nine Simple Books" this is really three books each with three stories. Our kids LOVE Tanja's books and I think it is the simplicity of the black and white line drawings and the unusual stories that she writes. I seriously can't count the number of times I have read 'A Pear and a Bear' and 'A Fox and a Box' not to mention how many times they have read them themselves! The two books already mentioned (six stories) are in this book along with a new book (three stories). Yay! More to read!The story 'A Bear and a Pear' is the first story. This is followed by 'A Dog in the Fog' which is hilarious! Then comes 'Aron and Nora', a boy and a fish. What do they each like doing that is the same? What about the one thing that is not the same? The last "new" story is 'Sun, Rain, Snow, Wind' which features an elephant. 'Mia and Pia' are apes at a zoo. What do they see? Can you guess who "Me" is? The fox wants to eat the rat. Will he get his wish? When presented with different parts of an animal, will you guess what that animal is before it is revealed? What is the new pet?Each story is simply written with many phonetically spelled words as well as sight words. Great for young readers. This book even works well on the smaller Kindles. (I have a 7" Paperwhite.) If you have never read any of Tanja's books then I highly recommend them! HOWEVER if you already have some of them, each of the three books is available to purchase separately thus preventing you getting a repeat. Book was provided in exchange for an honest review. FIRST STEPS By Barbara Mojica A set of stories which contain lots of sight words and simple sentences for children who are just embarking on the path to reading. Themes center around things that appeal most to young children. In this collection, the young reader will explore black and white text along with large, simple illustrations that focus on topics like body parts, pets, weather and familiar animals. Simple rhyming word groups like dog on a log and fox on a box encourage a young child because they are fun to read aloud.I recently purchased a beginning reader set for my six year old granddaughter who has begun to read. This set will make a wonderful addition to her collection. Recommended for preschool and kindergarten teachers, librarians, and parents who want to build and reinforce early reading skills. While I read the set in kindle form, I hope to see it in paperback soon.
