About the Author Richard E. Kelly is a retired CEO of an international manufacturing company located in west Michigan that was known for its continuous improvement culture. He is the author of Growing Up in Mama’s Club and The Ghosts from Mama’s Club, and he is the managing director of Advocates for Awareness of Watchtower Abuses (aawa.co). He is also one of the founding members of Open Minds Foundation (openmindsfoundation.org), an international non-profit organization that educates people about the prevalence and danger of undue influence.

Alexander In Mariuca and Marilyn-Saying Goodbye to Mama’s Club-Exploring the Effects of Undue Influence, Richard E. Kelly takes us on another journey through the bewildering underworld of life in a cult. While many groups, such as Jehovah’s Witnesses, may appear innocuous to outsiders, in reality, the draconian and patriarchal policies within keep members in a psychological, educational and social darkness. For women within these sects, “undue influence” places them is a position of subservience, which can further damage and cheapen their lives. The dystopia of cult life is especially acute for those who are born into them; unnatural beliefs and doctrines strangulate developing brains, making it almost impossible to use proper reasoning skills to make life decisions. Upon leaving these groups, years of therapy may be needed to deafen the phobic fears and guilt, and “re-wire” a person’s thinking in order to cope with the world outside of the cult.Mr. Kelly’s book shares with us three life stories of people unduly influenced by a destructive cult. For two of them, the struggle to untangle themselves from indoctrination and move on to a successful and fulfilling life was a gargantuan and painful process, with losses of family along the way. Kelly By Enrique Gonzalez This book tells two great stories of two women which are victims of "undue influence", the third part of the book explains what is undue influence and what is doing to society even in our modern advanced world where the ability to research is only a mouse click away. There are millions of people in high control groups that suffer everyday, some even take their lives away due to the nature and inhuman tactics deployed by these groups such as Church of Scientology, ISIS, Jehovah's Witnesses and many others.I have read all of Richard Kelly's books, each of his books have had a strong impact in my life simply for the fact that I can easily relate because I too suffered from "undue influence" and for all I know I still suffer from it from time to time. I am also a victim of one of these high control groups and have lost friends and families by being shunned for no longer blindly accepting their sets of beliefs. My heart goes out to all of you trapped in these groups and I have nothing but the upmost respect, gratitude and love for Richard Kelly for writing all these books and trying to help others trapped in such organizations.

This is his third book and he describes his problems with his childhood religion in an entirely different way. He shows how two women, one his late sister, devoted much of their lives to a religious cult - only to find abuse and destructive lifestyles. His sister Marilyn met an early and tragic end and Kelly clearly connects the dots back to the demands of her earlier lifestyle. On the other hand, Mariuca, who is not directly related to Kelly (but is now his "adopted" daughter), eventually found her way to happiness in spite of multiple relationships defined and controlled by the same cultish religion. The stories of these two strong women and Richard Kelly's connection to them makes for enlightening reading - exposing the continuing abuse of women by controlling religions.
