1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Interesting historical fantasy By Jay The story has vivid descriptions anchored on Irish folklore that provides a good backdrop to the story. The writing is engaging, albeit the collection of characters, from the heroes, to the dark forces and the aliens got a bit confusing for me. I do think the story could interest fans of historical fantasy and readers who are curious about the mythical folklore of Ireland. Overall 3.5 stars.

Engaging mix of science fiction, Irish history and clean story telling By Richard Behrens Mystic Village takes place in Ireland during the late 18th Century, but is a strange and fascinating mix of Irish folklore, historical fiction, science fiction, horror and alternative reality. A simple farmer named Garth goes off to explode the mountains of the Armorian Highlands and gets corralled by a strange mist towards a hidden village populated by folk dedicated to the establishment of a just and peaceful society. They are hidden from the rest of the world, similar to the way in which the magic folk in Harry Potter are concealed from the muggles. Because of his goodness, Garth is allowed by their magical protection to join their community. However, their village has been attracting dark and evil forces that threaten to destroy everything they have accomplished. The novel follows their exodus to a compound maintained by aliens from another planet who are protecting the Mystic Village from the dark forces. I don't want to give away the ending, but there are several encounters with both the protecting aliens and the destructive monsters that add to the suspense and mystery. Author J.D. Fortier has created characters and a world that could possibly be expanded into further novels. The best writing in this book, I found, is when the characters are engaged in the Irish landscapes, wandering in their exile to protect innocent people from the dark forces that cannot stand to watch goodness thrive in any community. This is also a book that will appeal to young adults and those who like their adventure stories with no disturbing violence or material inappropriate for young readers.

How creative of you.I believe your story relates to the confusion of this century of where technology, science fiction, crime, politics and human nature are taking us with our aim for harmony and light to overcome negative forces.I’ve purchased three additional copies for my sister-in-law’s to share via a long distance book club.
