By Robin Leigh Morgan I received a KINDLE Edition of this book through a LibraryThing.com giveaway in return for my honest opinion of it.As I read this book the song “I’m Shy” from Once Upon a Mattress began playing in my head. I remembered watching on television first with Carol Burnett in the early 1970’s and then with Tracy Ullman a few years ago.In this song Winnifred sings about her having an air of being confident but confesses it’s merely a mask she wears because she’s actually shy and that deep down inside she’s demure and pure.This book does a wondrous job in helping those individual who confess to being shy get pass what is creating it and to develop an air of confident whether it’s real or a veil hiding the shyness which still exists inside them. It speaks the truth in describing the kind of individual introverts are, will surprise them in revealing the kind of powerful individual they truly are.I must confess I’m basically a shy individual however in some areas of social life I appear not to be the wallflower I am, because those observing me are surprised by the knowledge I possess. The listing of strengths introverts have in Chapter 3 describes me almost to a “T”; especially Number 10, when it comes to doing the book reviews I write.As I read Part 2 which deals with overcoming social anxiety and shyness by giving suggestions, and given what I wrote in the above I began to wonder how many so-called extroverts who have developed some of them to the nth degree are truly introverts in real life.The self-examination questions the book asks does an accurate job in what it’s asking you to look at.For helping those introverts who read this book to discover the reasons behind their plight and hopefully overcome it, I’m giving this book 5 STARS.

When it comes to social enxiety and shyness, we often blame ourselves and feel that we're doing something wrong in our lives. However, we often block social growth because of our own insecurities, unmerited fears, and shyness. This valuable truth has been effectively communicated in this book. But, it does not end with that alone. It's good that this book comprehensively provided steps to overcoming introversion, anxiety and shyness. What's more beautiful is the piece of advice to turn social problems into positive characteristics.In a general sense, one must read this book to broaden his understanding of the introverts and do some self-check too.I find this real helpful to teens and even those who have established a career but is struggling with self and others.

After the ending of book 1 Jax and Evangeline are gone into hiding but they know they can't stay hiding because they have to try to find Evangelines sister. Riley decides to try and handcuff himself to Evangeline and see will she stay in the normal week, but it doesn't happen and Riley ends up stuck in the Eight day with Evangeline.During that time Jax gets a call from his friend Billy to say that he was kidnapped by Jaxs Uncle. Jax doesn't know anything about an Uncle so is suitably nervous. Jax knows that he can't wait for Riley to come back, so he sets off to rescue his best friend! Once there he finds out some secrets and surprising truths. Can he rescue Billy and find out where Evangelines sister is before it's too late?This was just as good, if not better, than book 1. There was so much more action, adventure and intrigue that it was such a rollercoaster.Character wise, Jax was just as awesome as he was in book 1. He is so brave and true and it really comes across in The Inquisitors Mark. I felt for him when he learned about his father. No matter what was happening to him though, he always thought of his friends first. Riley isn't as prominent in this edition but he is as cool as ever. Billy was such a breath of fresh air! He is such a lovable character and I hope we see more of him in the next one. There is also a host of new characters introduced, with Dorian being my favourite. Despite being a Dulac, he was so nice and kind. I hope we see more of him too.Plot wise, it was really fast paced and engaging. There are some secrets revealed. Jax finds out some things about his dad and Evangeline finds out things about her sister. While this answers some questions from book 1 we are left with even more after the ending of this!!Overall, The Inquisitors Mark was an action packed and intense ride. The action and adventure start pretty much straight away and then we are whisked away on quite an intriguing and suspenseful read. Billy adds a welcome comic relief and is sure to be a favourite for everyone. There are magical creatures thrown into the mix this time and a lot more villains. With the ending we are left hanging but it just makes me extra eager to read book 3. Dianne K Salerni has created a fantastical realm and one I love diving into. Her writing brings the story to life and makes the reader eager to read more. I'd highly recommend this series to everyone.

So when Finn Ambrose, a mysterious stranger, contacts Jax claiming to be his uncle, Jax's defenses go up—especially when Finn tells Jax that he’s holding Jax's best friend, Billy, hostage.The Inquisitor's Mark is an intense, action-packed fantasy set in a world where Arthurian descendants can enter a secret spell-created day between Wednesday and Thursday.This one picks up right where The Eighth Day left off, and our characters need to find and protect one of Merlin's descendants, otherwise she will be murdered to destroy the people living in the 8th day.The Inquisitor's Mark kept me glued to the page throughout. A new set of characters are developed as an enemy clan, and they are creepy and fun to read. I loved the addition of Dorian's perspective for helping us understand just how evil the Dulacs are and how hard it is to make the right decisions.Salerni also used this book to develop her world even further. We meet magical creatures and explore fascinating time-and-space travel tunnels.Second books often have a hard time living up to their counterparts, but I found this Book 2 to be even stronger than Book 1, even though Book 1 was a 5 star book for me. Salerni doesn't ease into the story like she did in The Eighth Day, she jumps straight in. The dialogue is more authentic, and the world was crafted more clearly.Also, I love that this series is steering clear of annoying love triangles. Some twinges of romance exist in the background; as in, he has a crush on her... they're holding hands. He and his guardian Riley Pendare/Pendragon are Transitioners – people who are able to experience a special eighth day (nicknamed “Grunsday”) between Wednesday and Thursday, and have a family magic talent (Jax’s is inquisition, Riley has the voice of command, etc.). They are able to protect (and fight) the Kin – super-powerful magic people, all with different talents. Some Kin, like Evangeline, are good, while some Kin are evil and want the eighth day to be the only day.All was going well, until Jax (who was in hiding)’s former best friend, Billy, was kidnapped because he knew Jax. Not only that, but he was kidnapped by Jax’s uncle. And Jax’s dad had told Jax that he had no other relatives, besides his mother’s cousin, so what is going on? When Jax is forced to join his family, and the evil Transitioners that they serve, he can’t believe it. They work for the enemy and they want Jax to join them. But, Jax is loyal to Riley and Evangeline.What I Thought- This was a very thrilling book. It explains a lot about Jax, and Transitioners in general. There is a lot of mystique added to the plot and the characters. Jax, especially in this book, is a character you can care for. His family is working for the enemy, and they want Riley and Evangeline in their clutches. The story draws you in, and gets you asking questions. The story is appropriate for all ages, and the publisher rates it for ages 8+. But there is a lot going on in the plot that may make it a bit hard for younger readers. TLC Diet by Steven Johnson By Kindle God In this book the TLC Diet by Steven Johnson I learned quite nutrition about and some helpful steps in achieving a more healthy lifestyle. Many of the information that the book talked about I was aware of. However what impressed me was the subtle and gentle way the author teaches the information. They used very enticing pictures that lure you into the information. I have seen it many times with diets where they almost talk condescending about the changes you need to make. However the author here introduces the diet in a way that shows compassion. The pictures associated with the recipes were mouth watering. Good thing I had already eaten dinner or it would have been a trip to the grocery store immediately to try them out. This is an absolute must read.

About the Author Kylene Beers, Ed.D., is a former middle school teacher who has turned her commitment to adolescent literacy and struggling readers into the major focus of her research, writing, speaking, and teaching. She is author of the best-selling When Kids Can't Read/What Teachers Can Do, co-editor (with Bob Probst and Linda Rief) of Adolescent Literacy: Turning Promise into Practice, and co-author (with Bob Probst) of Notice and Note: Strategies for Close Reading and Reading Nonfiction, Notice & Note Stances, Signposts, and Strategies all published by Heinemann. She taught in the College of Education at the University of Houston, served as Senior Reading Researcher at the Comer School Development Program at Yale University, and most recently acted as the Senior Reading Advisor to Secondary Schools for the Reading and Writing Project at Teachers College. Kylene has published numerous articles in state and national journals, served as editor of the national literacy journal, Voices from the Middle, and was the 2008-2009 President of the National Council of Teachers of English. She is an invited speaker at state, national, and international conferences and works with teachers in elementary, middle, and high schools across the US. Kylene has served as a consultant to the National Governor's Association and was the 2011 recipient of the Conference on English Leadership outstanding leader award. 115 of 116 people found the following review helpful. Mostly repetition of other books in a shorter form By Adam Shields I am an unabashed fan of NT Wright. I have read most of his popular level books (except the commentary series) and a few of his more academic oriented books. I appreciate his focus on calling people to a fresh look at scripture and his ability to take scripture seriously while maintaining real academic quality.But on the whole I was disappointed by this book. It is a re-working of articles that have previously appeared elsewhere. Most of them were commissioned by US journals or from chapters in books that were for US audiences, or written forms of lectures, so as a Brit, he is most of the time consciously writing for the North American Evangelical audience.His basic arguments, like most of Wright, is that given historical realities of the original writers and audience, we modern readers tend to be missing the intended point of the original writers.As with most Wright he needs to go through a fairly long narrative to be able to help the reader understand his point. And I think that is why his full length book treatments are better than these shorter issue based chapters.The problem is not so much the individual chapters, but that in almost every case, he has a better response in a full length books (and he frequently tells the reader that there is more to the story if you want to pick up another one of his books.) So his first three chapters on science and religion, the historical Adam and the resurrection were all better handled by his book Scripture and the Authority of God.The fourth chapter, The Biblical Case for Ordaining Women, is actually one of the two issues in the book that was new to me (although he says he has brought up several of the issues before in his commentary series.)The fifth chapter is theoretically about environmentalism, but is really a short version of his Surprised by Hope book about eschatology.The sixth chapter is the only chapter that I think might be better as a chapter than the book. Wright's Evil and the Justice of God was decent, but in this chapter he does a better job of summarizing by saying, we cannot solve the problem of evil. Instead, God has chosen to give us scripture, not as a way to intellectually solve the problem of evil, but as a way to remind us that God is with us through difficult times.Several of the later chapters are more political and this is where likely a number of bad reviews will focus. Wright have a very good defence of why a scriptural church is a political church. And Wright also is theologically consistent with his politics. The problem for many readers is that those politics do not match well with our US political systems. So Wright is 'conservative' about sexual issues, 'liberal' about environmentalism, international debt and immigration policy, and off the political map in regard to terrorism. He is against anabaptist retreat and attempts of re-creating Christendom. As I have said in regard to his discussion of politics in other books, I think he is theologically right about most of his points, but he is not a great economist, political historian or political theorist. (And I agree with him in a large number of his political stances.)If there is a main theme in the book, it is that we are now all Epicureans. It is the focus of the chapter on Idolatry, but comes up multiple times throughout the book. Essentially this is not unlike what some others describe as modern Deism. But Wright believes that Epicureanism is actually a better description. The short description of Epicureanism is that it is a believe that the gods don't really care about us or at least don't have much influence over our daily lives, so we might as well live for pleasure because that is something we can do.The rest of the chapters not mentioned are basically the same. Good topics, fairly well handled by Wright, but always feeling a bit too rushed and too thematically squeezed into the book. On the whole, I would just suggest that you read Wright's others books and skip this one, unless you are really interested in his take on Epicureanism or Women in Ministry.Personally, I think you should start with Scripture and the Authority of God, then read Surprised by Hope and Simply Jesus and expand from there as you have time and interest._____3 stars is probably a little overly harsh, but I grading on a curve based on the very high quality of books that I expect out of Wright.

20 of 21 people found the following review helpful. A Great Discussion of a Variety of Topics By Henry T Imler I am a huge fan of N. T. Wright and his writings. His style is very engaging, holding one's attention while dealing with scholarly topics. He can engage so many topics, ranging from historical Jesus to Pauline theology to studying the Psalms to discussing the Bible itself. So when I heard about this book I was ecstatic because it's not a traditional book but rather a collection of essays that seem rather unrelated.I say they seem unrelated because there is a thread in this book that comes around again and again: Epicurean philosophy. This book represents, more than anything, Wright's critique of the post-Enlightenment worldview that is centered upon the foundation of the ancient philosophy first espoused by the Greek Epicurus. He taught that if God or the gods even exist they are a long way away and have nothing to do with the earth. The earth sustains itself with no help from God or the gods.The Roman poet Lucretius popularized this philosophy, and his poetry was rediscovered in the Middle Ages and helped spark the Enlightenment. This kicked God and Jesus upstairs into heaven, separating them from the earth and humanity. Therefore theories like evolution sprang up in a way to fill in the void that was previous filled by God. Christianity joined in with the Enlightenment in espousing this kind of dualistic worldview, saying heaven is a place a long way away and that Jesus has come to take us away from this evil world back to heaven with him.Thus Wright is saying that the Western Church has colluded with the enemy by affirm his worldview and then trying to reaffirm God from within it. That's why people like Al Mohler of Southern Seminary says that we must either believe the Bible or what science teaches. It's either Jesus or Evolution; an historical Adam or the Bible is completely false. Wright is seeking a way past this Epicurean false choice into a more fully biblical worldview.Wright calls Christians to rediscover what the Bible is actually saying by letting go of our allegiance to Epicurus/Lucretius/Enlightenment. Heaven is not a far away realm but is overlapping and interlocking with our own. We can believe in evolution and the resurrection without compromising our faith in Jesus. We can let go of our secret love affair with Mammon (money), Sex (Aphrodite), and War (Mars). In America, we can work to stop having the same battles that were fought in 1861-1865!I heartily recommend this book to all. Wright shows how Christians can believe in the Second Coming of Jesus and therefore actively participate in ecological causes. If you have read Wright's other works you'll see him applying those ideas in very concrete ways. A must read text.

13 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Is Wright Correct? By revtcr An OverviewSurprised by Scripture is a collection of papers and addresses given by N.T. Wright in noted places both in the US and Europe, ranging from 2004 to 2013. While Wright addresses the contemporary Western world in general terms, the reader can’t help but notice the many specific references to the US. Wright’s reason: because of the powerful influence that the American culture in the rest of the world. Two important elements through the book is Wright’s repeated attention to the philosophies of the eighteenth-century Enlightenment, on the one hand, and the ancient philosophy of Epicureanism in a modern guise, on the other.The book is comprised of twelve essays, which really are showcase of one of today’s most brilliant biblical scholars engaging contemporary issues, per its subtitle. The reader must also keep in mind that N.T. Wright is not only a biblical scholar but a historian as well. As the reader moves through each chapter, he or she encounters both the theologian and historian on each page. The book is engaging, witty, and often focuses the reader to rethink held positions. And what is central to the book, the one constant, is the author’s modus operandi: how God is putting the world to rights through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus the Messiah, and thereby launching the new creation.A CritiqueAbove I mentioned Wright’s modus operandi (so much more can be said). Readers of Wright’s works would know what I mean. It is this Wright uses to engage the contemporary issues addressed in this work. Now what ultimately determines the usefulness of Surprised by Scripture is this: Is Wright’s reading of Scripture correct?But not all the essays in Surprised by Scripture are engaging and useful. While there are several gemlike and evenly balanced essays, the one I was expecting the most from turns out to be the most disappointing: “Do We Need a Historical Adam?” Instead of an assured, challenging and thoughtful Wright, who forces you to rethink, what we get in this chapter is a very speculative and sloppy Wright. For example, in an effort to draw a parallel between nation Israel and Adam and Eve, we find this: “that just as God chose Israel from the rest of humankind for a special, strange, demanding vocation, so perhaps what Genesis is telling us is that God chose one pair from the rest of early hominids for a special, strange, demanding vocation” (p. 37). But Wright offers no explanation as to the origin of these socalled “early hominids.” However, all is not lost in this essay. I found his bit on the young-earth position mature and wise.Wright continues his critique of the Rapture and a Dispensational reading of Scripture. Before you wonder why. Because of Wright’s own reading of Scripture, there can be no place for a Dispensational reading, especially the Rapture position. At any rate, before I bring this review to an end, I would be remiss if I didn’t say something on the essay “The Biblical Case for Ordaining Women.” I consider this one of the gemlike essays. For years, I’ve been waiting for an egalitarian to do what Wright does in this essay: “Galatians 3 is not about ministry…” (p. 65). Instead Wright lays a foundation for his interaction with 1 Corinthian 11 and 14 and 1 Timothy 2. As a complementarian, I challenge fellow complementarians to read this essay with an open mind.ConclusionAbove all, to see how N.T. Wright’s reading of Scripture engages some of our leading and controversial contemporary issues is what commends Surprised by Scripture for me. Wright is not for the faint of heart. But neither can he be ignored. I’ve even read where senior denomination leaders have asked their younger pastors to stay away from the writings of N.T. Wright. Why? Because Wright will challenge you to rethink your beliefs, and worst, even cause you to give some of them up. Rather than frustrating a reading of Wright’s works, I so wish that denominational leaders would engage an N.T. Wright, not least in the US, and perhaps be the better for doing so. A la Luther. Semper reformanda.

Like a crazy montage of many well known fairytales kicked up a few notches & then bedazzled by the fairy fashionista that is Butchy. This story had me laughing from beginning to end! Butchy is a piece of work, & I couldn't get enough of his back & forth banter with the girls! There's loads of action, comedy, romance, & magical goodness all around. If the fairies aren't enough for ya I'm sure one of the many witches or smexy shifters will win you over. Psssst...Those are some seriously HOT bears & crocs! I can't wait for the next installment!!!

By Chuya0707 I just got done listening to Beary Tales on Audible and of coarse I own the ebook so I read along because I could. Haha. I haven't listened to many books yet. This is still kinda new to me. I loved the narrators voice. So calm and soothing yet she kept my attention, which is hard to do, and I really enjoyed it.For a book that has multiple authors that I'm already familiar with, I thought for sure I'd notice when the writing would switch from one author to another but I couldn't! They really brought their amazing story telling talent together well! The characters were funny and developed into very likable people. The guys that the girls meet along the way added something extra to the fairy tales I grew up knowing. The twist in the story kept me begging for more and I was wondering how it would all fit since I could see it was almost to the end.....well I can't wait to see what's planned for the next book because of coarse they left me with a CLIFFHANGER!! Who am I kidding, I love cliffhangers! Lol. I almost forgot about dinner completely and I got little sleep. It was so worth it! I recommend this for adults and maybe mature teens btw.

Excellent & Spellbinding By GothicChick This was such a wonderful, book that I actually read it twice, the second time with my teen daughter, who was more than happy to sit and listen to me read.We are introduced to a world, not unlike our own, but our protagonist has a lot of learning, self-discovery and growing up to do.This has all the elements of an aged old fairytale, yet, has all the magic of present day realism that completely spellbinds the reader. Fast paced, well written and a plot that grips right until the end, it is hard to not think about the story, even after the end.There are so many interwoven themes present in this book, that I tip my hat to its authors. Clever, well versed, believable dialogue and, above all else, a beautifully crafted novel.If you love your fairy tales packing a punch, then this is the book for you.Thoroughly enjoyable.

Worthwhile read for someone who knows anyone with ADHD/ADD By Cathy Juntura I did not know anyone who had ADHD until the person I share a cubicle with lead in their introduction of themselves with an apology for any "oddness" because she had ADHD. I thought nothing of it, but I saw her struggle on some paperwork and she was distracted easily. I thought to get this book because I really liked her and I wanted to help her out with her struggle against ADHD. I was instructed on how to support her, how to calm her down when she was hyperactive, and exactly what ADD/ADHD was. I learned a lot about her struggle and how to make it less of one, and I'm glad I did.

By JA Armstrong This book was geared towards Young Adults, but since I enjoy reading them, this was a no brainer for me. Our hero is Nicholas Dent who lives with his Mother and sister. His father dies shortly after he was born so he never knew him. Nicholas survived a mysterious illness that almost killed him right after he was born and wants nothing more to be average, normal and unnoticed in his life. However, his mother starts dating a researcher, he starts suffering from unexplainable fatigue and funny things start happening (like who sacked his room).Nicholas discovers some amazing and some horrifying things at the local Research Facility outside of town and in his Fathers 9until now unknown) storage Locker he finally stumble upon some answers for his questions.By the end of the novel you will be hanging onto each page, waiting to see if this fatigue will finally overcome him, Will Dr Sam or Dr Leach get a hold of him for who knows what experiments? What is hiding in the bowels of the Facility? And what are all those tiny things in his Cells? A very well written book full of courage, team work, angst and triumph. I would recommend this one to any of my teenage cousins.

I would describe the genre as a children’s/preteen science fiction. The story revolves around a boy named Nicholas Dent and his quest to NOT be the weirdest kid on the plant; which is not small feat since he just discovered that his body is full of millions of tiny nanomachines. And in addition to that (as if that’s not enough) there is also an evil scientist who wants to capture him for experimentation reasons. So instead of giving up, Nicholas stands tall and faces all that’s against him and goes on an epic search to find a mysterious machine that’s the key to everything, including his own survival!I think “Nicholas Dent and the Mysterious Machines” will really appeal to young readers. Sulser has created an engaging character and world along with a unique and entertaining plotline. I really liked Nicholas and was rooting for him to prevail against all the odds stacked against him. I look forward to reading more books by R.E. Sulser!

When we meet him, he is fresh off a humiliating experience at school. He has always felt different, but he isn’t sure why. He tries to hide in the shadows at the middle school he hates because he doesn’t want to be known for anything, especially coming from a family of scientists. After he starts looking through his late father’s belongings, we find out what his secret is and things start making sense. Other people figure out his secret too, with dangerous results. The ending is good and I can see many great things happening for Nick now that he knows what he truly is. This book is written for young readers, so it is easy to understand. It is the type of book that could get a child interested in reading, which is never a bad thing.

By Shipyard It’s a fun read and a crazy story about young people taking over a trailer park. It made me miss those college days and think how exciting it would be if I was in the same situation. A drifter character keeps you guessing with his tales from the road and not really being sure if the guy is insane. I liked the local Worcester references and you could even picture the setting in a fictitious neighborhood somewhere near Clark University. Overall good read with a few unexpected twists.

There is the strict diet, the endless exercises that doesn't seem to do anything but burn us up. With strenuous exercises, we become fatigued and little did we know that it can even contribute to more weight gain. I was very happy when I saw this Adrenal Reset Diet. I was really curious as to what this book can offer and I must say that this is definitely worth buying! If you are someone who wants to have a happy and fulfilling life, you should definitely give this book a try. Some of the adrenal super foods that this book has recommended were my favorite seaweed and fermented drinks. Awesome book!!

After 10 years of battling with it using natural supplements and elimination diets, I finally found a source of my problem ... I eat like $#!@! It's not even so much the type or quality of food that I eat; it's the time of day. I have never been hungry at breakfast time and quite often I just grab a handful of something around lunch time, and then can be too busy at dinner time. Finally, around 8 or 9:00pm, I realize that I am famished and I eat an entire large pizza or something like that. I have been that way since my college years and as a result, I wore out my adrenal glands. So, the adrenal diet is important to me. But, this book is crap. Pay the extra money and get the real Adrenal Reset Diet book by Dr. Christianson.
