From School Library Journal Gr 1–4—The further adventures of unlikely friends Bird and Squirrel as they continue to get caught up in mishaps. Fans of the first two titles in this graphic novel series will not be disappointed with the shenanigans that the two companions find themselves involved in as they cross the Great Mountains. The rescue of a baby bear, a pursuit by wolves, and a case of amnesia are just some of what happens this time around. Burks continues to prove a wonderful storyteller with his vivid artwork, which will engage the most reluctant of readers. VERDICT Best suited for elementary grade students and struggling readers, this title is a must-own for graphic novel collections.—John Trischitti, Midland County Public Libraries, TX

Colorful Fun, With An Interesting Plot By Pop Bop Ever since the ancient Greek playwright Aeschylus introduced the second actor to the stage we've had double acts. Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, Burns and Allen, Martin and Lewis, Hope and Crosby - we love them all. These guys - Bird and Squirrel - feel most like a Hope and Crosby team, and that's fine by me.The other B&S books feel like road movies; the two get into some outrageous scrape and have to get themselves out. This book is a bit more ambitious. Usually, Squirrel is the nervous worrier and Bird is pretty mellow and dependable. But in this one Bird gets conked on the noggin and suffers from amnesia. The guys are in the deep woods being chased by wolves, trying to protect a bear cub, and endeavouring to navigate forest threats. Squirrel has to step up and save the day. How well he does, and how much he wisecracks along the way, is what drives the plot. Needless to say, there's lots of funny business between our two heroes. It's bright, colorful, friendly, a little slapstick, and sometimes slyly funny. The story is easy to follow, both graphically and by way of the text. This strikes me as an especially entertaining and kid friendly way to approach one's first graphic novel, and it seems there should be at least one Bird & Squirrel book on the family shelf.

She normally is doom and gloom, which is similar to the squirrel and after reading these a couple of times, it has helped me get my kiddo to see life on the bright side (just like the bird). Their adventures are awesome and we now even sing the theme song whenever she's dealing with a tough situation.

By jacksonian My 8 year old nephew who has been struggling with reading and never wanted to read for pleasure absolutely LOVES these. They are perfect for the stubborn boy reader. Well done, funny. And he loves the comic book style. It allows him to feel like he's making progress quickly rather than staring with dejection at a long page of words.
