Review By tony mulville I found “Unlock Gratitude Now!” a fascinating insight into how to change your way of thinking, and ultimately how to improve your life. There’s no doubt that this Author has had real life challenges which he has overcome through practicing Gratitude, and I found this really encouraging.I particularly loved the Quotes at the start of each Chapter, which I can revert back to when I’m looking for a quick inspiration.It’s great that you can revisit the book and a particular chapter that relates to your specific challenge or worries.I really enjoyed the book, and I will keep it close by, for regular inspiration!!

Instead, practicing gratitude is one of the seven techniques for self-improvement this book describes.Gratitude, writes Mike Pettigrew, “has the power to overcome fear, anger, resentment and every negative emotion. It is simply not possible to feel negative when experiencing the power of gratitude.” That may be because gratitude focuses us on our blessings – on what we have -- instead of on what we don’t have. Pettigrew suggests we cultivate the attitude of gratitude by keeping a gratitude journal, and by writing letters to people to whom we are grateful, even if the letters are never sent.The other various keys or techniques include learning how to change your inner emotional state -- Pettigrew claims we can choose to change our feelings in an instant. Another key is programing our subconscious mind. Pettigrew explains that “our dominant thoughts and emotions create the circumstances of our lives.” He recommends influencing our subconscious in constructive ways by repetition of affirmations.First, determine what you want, what your goals are in the next 90 days, year and five years. Then write them down in specific, concise statements. Include why you want each goal and a date by which you will achieve them because strong reasons gives goals more power, he writes, and deadlines afford accountability. Then rewrite each statement into a positive affirmation, often starting with the words “I am.” An example of an affirmation for someone seeking to overcome worry is, ”I am aware that change is the only constant in life, and I welcome it.”Affirmations should be repeated aloud frequently, such as upon waking and before going to sleep. In addition, one should visualize what it looks like to achieve the goal. Repeating this process with emotion, especially with gratitude, programs our subconscious mind, and is the key “to creating a wonderfully happy and successful future.” A further crucial step is to write down specific action plans to achieve each goal, and to allocate time each day to take action on those steps.There is other useful if familiar advice such as overcoming our self-limiting beliefs, not remaining discouraged by setbacks, and creating a daily schedule. Pettigrew also recommends self-hypnosis, meditation, practice making creative ideas, learning from mentors, and being a lifelong learner. “When we stop learning, we stop growing. ” Helping others should be one of our life purposes. “The happiest people are always those who work for the happiness of those around them, and who do so continually.” Other priorities are taking care of our physical and mental health.There are some needless digressions in the book that aren’t part of the self-help techniques. One is cloud busting by projecting energy. Another is the contention there is “a considerable amount of rock solid scientific evidence for life after physical death.” He doesn’t get into that evidence other than to recommend a couple of authors who write about the subject, one of whom describes out-of-body travels. A third is that our beliefs affect our environment. One need not agree with all of the author’s opinions, however, to benefit from his advice.This book needed a good editor who might have improved the organization and deleted some repetitions and frequent phrases like “as I was saying,” “as I mentioned,” “as I say.” Despite those caveats, Unlock Gratitude Now is a useful resource for self-improvement. ###

Useful tips for practical application in everyday life By Leaby The book offers some useful tips and insights for practical application in helping you turn around your life, focusing on gratitude and positive thinking. I'm happy to report I've already started to use a couple of the ideas with some success. It's a good read, but to get the full benefit readers really should do all the exercises and not just read about them. I would have found it a bit more useful if there had been a workbook or templates that come with the book.
