This is the fourth episode of the African Elementals series. An ancient evil is drawn to the shores of America where good people have forgotten their history, power, and strength. When Shania Moore’s dreams of a serial killer draining the souls of African American girls in a bizarre ritual turn out to be real, she knows her daughter with an unusual ability is in danger. Shania packs up everything and flees from Detroit to Atlanta.  She doesn’t know that strength will be found in the arms of the white man whom she had lied to and left at the altar ten years earlier. Deacon Kilgore does not know he’s a descendant from a Norse god and that he’s a guardian for an ancient African goddess.  When his beautiful ex-girlfriend shows up, he almost walks away. She had broken his heart and lied to him about aborting their baby. But when he sees the sweet spirited young girl with violet eyes reminding him of his dearly departed mother, he can’t help but defend them both. Can he forgive the woman who ripped his heart out? There’s more than their daughter’s life at stake. If Shania and Deacon fail to thwart the ancient evil, the very fabric of existence as they know it will be destroyed.

About the Author It took thirty years for Alicia to accept her calling as a writer of "unusual stories." Always writing edgy tales that pushed the envelope. It wasn't until she joined a local writer's group that she began to share her stories openly and take the plunge. Alicia writes for both new adults and adults with her brand of multicultural supernatural thrillers, urban fantasy, paranormal, and horror. Her stories always include strong women heroines who fight back, sometimes to the death. Alicia's influences are Octavia Butler, LA Banks, Faith Hunter, Patricia Briggs, and Laurell K. Hamilton. Alicia is an activist in the movement towards diversifying Science fiction and Fantasy (#diversityinsff). She created the first "State of Black Science Fiction 2012" blog tour, is an active member in the State of Black Science Fiction FaceBook group and has a ScoopIt page where she actively curates topics related to Afrofuturism, Black Science Fiction, and Black Speculative fiction. There is so much action, I felt.like I was in a whirlwind. I never knew what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the different characters as well. Honestly though, I'm having a really tough time liking Shania. I really, really, really want to like her, but.... I just found that she really got on my nerves. I know, I know, that's really horrible. I believe in Alicia McCalla though. I believe she will redeem Shania, and I will end up loving her to pieces. Can't wait for the next book!***I received a complimentary copy in return for an honest review***

It is an extremely well structured and well plotted novel and there isn’t a dull moment. It is full of unconventional and interesting characters. My favourite character is Stacey, and although I should be sympathetic to her plight, it’s just giving me way too much entertainment. This book isn’t for the faint of heart as there are some very scary and gory moments in the book – not to mention the Priest who the author has assured me she will kill off at some point. The novel also deals with some very serious themes in an intelligent way. I’m looking forward to reading the next books in this series.
