About the Author Johnny Gruelle was an extremely talented cartoonist, illustrator, and storyteller. He had already written and illustrated a book of original fairy tales before creating the Raggedy Ann and Andy stories. Raggedy Ann, heroine of the first book, was a favorite doll of his daughter, Marcella, who died after a long illness at the age of thirteen. Johnny Gruelle eventually created over forty Raggedy Ann and Andy books, all capturing his unique version of childhood.Jan Palmer has illustrated many children’s stories and nearly twenty books. She was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick, in Canada. She enjoys whitewater canoeing and gardening. She lives in an old farmhouse in upstate New York.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Nice illustrations and well bound By Randy Lopez Nice illustrations and well bound, this was a very worthwhile purchase. My only complaint is that the stories have been changed, not dramatically, but in subtle ways, apparently to "update" them (I am only guessing) - I saw nothing wrong with the original stories and found their old-fashioned sensibilities charming, but the changes are not huge.

By Elizabeth McClintock This book brought back childhood memories of sitting with my Raggedy Ann while my mother read the stories to me! If you haven't done this with the child in your life. don't hesitate to begin. And if you don't have a child, cuddle up with your own doll and read them to yourself.

By Amazon Customer This is a beautiful book...one to give to one's own children, to grandchildren or to the children of friend's. The drawings are especially attractive and wonderfully old fashioned in a positive sense. I can't say enough good things about the book...its content and even its binding. A perfect gift!
