The boy playing the trumpet is certainly not sleepy. Ta ta ta ta ta ta! The wide-eyed girl holding a big red balloon doesn't look at all tired. No, it can't be her, but how about the drummer? Ra ta ta tat! No, it can't be him either. Look at that bear leaning against the couch. His eyes are beginning to close. Yawn! I think we have found out "who didn't get enough sleep!" Yes, it's that little gray bear, but can you find one more sleepyhead in the group?Turn, turn, turn the pages. There's an empty jam jar on the table. It looks like someone is a little piggy. Maybe it's that boy sitting on a park bench. He looks very, very happy. Perhaps he ate up all that jam. Yum, yum! How about the boy walking that big red dog? The jam was red and that dog looks like he can eat a lot. No, it can't be him. Hmmmm! There are a lot of people and critters to think about, but is there jam all over that blue critter's nose? I think we know just "who ate all the jam!"This is a perfect book for the youngest wannabe preschool detectives. Of course this is a visual seek-and-find book that demands little ones use their powers of observation. On each two-page (top to bottom) spread of this oversized board book are ten critters, including those of the human persuasion. Each spread is prefaced by a question that will get little eyes moving, scanning and interpreting the images. For example, in one we need to know "Who is in love?" This book is an excellent precursor to reading as well as one that gets little ones thinking about social cues (verbal and bodily) and what they mean. A visual answer key is in the back of the book. Who is wearing a disguise? Who played with that mean cat? (Hint: Check out that girl with all the scratch marks.) Who is nervous? You get the idea.My favorite is "Who is in Love." I GOT THIS ONE WRONG! There are 10 dopey-looking characters just standing there. One, however, is loudly playing the guitar and singing away. Surely that is the one in love, right? Another is smiling, and holding a feather-duster behind his back. Oh wait--that's not a feather duster--it's a bouquet of flowers! EEK! Of course, of course!The front and back covers--the "boards" of this book are very thick material--like a classic "board book." The pages are not thick boards, but rather are thick, high quality paper--almost like the pages of a laminated hiking map, but even thicker.Young children will have a blast sitting on mom or dad's lap, as they try to figure out together each mystery. To check their answers (or if mom or dad is confused), they just have to turn to the last page. Luckily this book is built so solidly, because I guarantee children are going to want to hear these stories over and over and over again.Sample product for impartial review.

This long, skinny book opens up horizontally to offer two rows of characters along with a question. Whether it's "Who didn't get enough sleep?" or "Who's in love?", each two page spread provides lots of opportunities for parents and children of all ages to interact as they try and determine which character is the right answer. Some answers are kind of obvious. All you have to do is look for the puddle to determine the answer to "Who couldn't hold it?" Some require more attention to expression. For those who might not be sure, the author/illustrator provides a handy answer key on the final page.This picture book take on the classic line up is full of charm and whimsy. Each character offers up subtle differences in attitude and expression that are perfect for discussion and play. The abundant humor will guarantee requests for repeat reads, and the sturdy construction ensures that this book will remain a first choice in any child's collection. A must have for group activities as well, Who Done It? is an enthusiastic recommend.

The Abandonment Neurosis, first published in 1950, was and still is a ground-breaking work. Guex’s research turns on two clinical observations: the frequent occurrence of analysands whose neurotic symptoms are unrecognizable when measured against any of the Freudian diagnostic models, and the relatively large number of these patients who sought help from her, having already undergone thorough classically Freudian treatments with analysts whose abilities were never in question, but whose efforts did nothing to relieve patient suffering. What all these subjects had in common, Guex observed, were extreme – life-debilitating – feelings of abandonment, insecurity and non-valorization, originally ignited by severe pre-Oedipal trauma. Having described the neurosis of abandonment, Guex goes on to outline every diagnostic tool and treatment methodology, developed over many years, which can be deployed in the successful and lasting eradication of this pervasive neurosis, in a way which seems to achieve the impossible.Guex’s trailblazing research, however, never received the accolades or attention it deserved; the original publication did not get much beyond the French first edition, so her ideas quickly fell from view; plus the book was never translated into English … until now, which hopefully might just provide the spark and readership that will see justice done.

About the Author Germaine Guex was born in France in 1904 and died in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1984. She studied psychology in Geneva; after receiving her diploma from the Institut Jean-Jacques Rousseau became Jean Piaget's assistant in the psychology laboratory. Above all, Guex was drawn to clinical work, so in 1930 she was recruited by psychoanalyst Dr. André Répond, Director of Psychiatry in the Malévoz clinic, Valais Switzerland, to oversee a psychoanalytically-inspired medical and psychological unit, the first of its kind. The work, which focused on children, parents and teachers, aimed at being both a therapeutic and preventative facility. During her years in Malévoz, and through her connection with Répond – who was a member of the Société Suisse de Psychanalyse – Guex became familiar with the work of Freud. Then in the 1940s she moved to Lausanne, began working as a psychoanalyst, and initiated the development of psychoanalytic training in French speaking Switzerland.Peter D. Douglas was born in Wembley, London in 1956. In 1965 he migrated to South Australia with his parents on the ten pound assisted passage, and settled in the satellite city of Elizabeth. In 1972 he joined the Royal Austalian Navy as a Junior Recruit and served five years, mainly overseas. He completed matriculation in 1976 and entered the Flinders University of South Australia the following year. In 1980 he began working as a performer, first as a musician in a touring band, that also made records, and then as an actor. In the 1990s he became a freelance writer, producer and director of theatre, television and film, and in 1995 joined Banksia productions and began making television and film for audiences worldwide. In 2002 he retired from commercial production and began lecturing in English at the University of Adelaide, where he established the Bachelor of Media course. In 2006 he took up a position at Wilto Yerlo, the indigenous teaching arm of the University of Adelaide, mentoring Aboriginal students through their university courses.

Moseley The Servants of the Empire series concludes in thrilling fashion in The Secret Academy, as Zare and Merei's spying, slicing, and secrecy in an effort to locate and save Zare's sister, Dhara, finally come out into the open. There's danger and action aplenty, but also some quieter moments, along with a few nice echoes from the first book in the series, Edge of the Galaxy. Some members of the Ghost crew are involved in the final action. There are also some hints about The Force Awakens, particularly about the possible nature of the First Order troopers. The academy's commandant also has the same surname as the First Order general in the upcoming film. Father/son?I've read pretty much every book , comic, & short story in the new canon. The books for young adults and children are, as a whole, better written than the books for grown-ups. The Secret Academy - and the Servants of the Empire series - is no exception. A worthy read for any Star Wars fan, young or old.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A strong ending to one of the best series in the NuCanon. By Atsushi Kanamori This series is one of my favorite outings in the NuCanon to date. Zare and Merei's quest to find Zare's missing sister is wrapped up in this final segment, but as throughout, the real battle is to not lose themselves in the process. Throughout, both characters find themselves facing the hard realities that their actions have consequences for friends, family and innocent bystanders, and that in seeking to fight the evil of the Empire from within, they may have to become that evil themselves. It's always good to see the GFFA through fresh new eyes, especially so given that both protagonists are ordinary folk with no super powers, "destinies", or lineage to any "Chosen Ones."I absolutely loved it that the evil mastermind behind the secret cabal at Arkanis uses the PT-era Jedi Order as his inspiration. It's always good to see the Jedi Order called out for what it really is: an unelected group of super-soldiers that snatch babies from their cradles and indoctrinate them as their willing servants in their formative years, while the rest of the Republic surrendered their armies and abdicated the job of maintaining peace and safeguarding liberty to this one group of people in a temple on Coruscant (backed up, of course, by a massive army of cloned slaves that conveniently dropped out of the sky.) Though two decades under the rule of the Sheev Administration was a tough medicine to swallow, the galaxy was ultimately stronger for the Jedi Order having been wiped out.One note: The "Rebels" characters only appear at the very end and frankly seem shoehorned in for the purpose of featuring them on the cover. I'm glad the focus stayed on the book's own characters.I'm seeing a pattern here, not uncommon in franchises taken over by big corporations. It's often these "back-water" products (like this, and "Lost Stars", and in some respects, "Rebels") that are often the most enjoyable, probably because they tend to suffer the least amount of interference from the execs. The highly hyped products like "Aftermath" and probably TFA, if the marketing so far is any indication, are that ones that turn out to be noisy, shallow and ultimately forgettable affairs that rely on nostalgia and iconography (not to mention, "practical effects", "practical effects", "practical effects.") While I remain skeptical of the Disney takeover overall, I'm glad to see there are still gems like this one coming out of the factory.

My only gripe (and why it got a 4 Stars) is that the part of the book that involved the whole plot of the series was quickly wrapped up in 3 fast paced chapters. I wonder if it was meant to be 5 books and the ending just had to be crammed in there.

Evanish - is a fairy-tale about a boy named Tommy to has an encounter with Turella the tooth fairy. After hearing all about her magical land, Tommy is anxious to see it for himself. He persuades Turella to take him back to Evanish and then the adventure begins. Murphy the Leprechaun is kidnapped by the evil Marduks and it's up to Tommy to rescue him. The Marduks pressure Murphy into granting them a wish, and this wish changes everything for the worst. But the story takes on another twist when the Marduks kidnap Tommy. One night, a very brave Turella sneaks out to find Tommy and Murphy. But with Murphy's health deteriorating they must come up with a plan soon to rescue Murphy and save Evanish before it's too late

The imagery and the characters keeps the reader engaged throughout the entire story. It stimulates the child's own imagination and totally immerses them in the story. A very witty and enjoyable read.
