About the Author Born in Israel, I enjoyed the food of the land - unadulterated, fresh, clean and healthy. My childhood included the fresh air and sunshine of this desert land of the Bible, and all the bounty of the Mediterranean region, from its pomegranates to its figs and dates, the grilled sardines and confections that my Turkish grandmother prepared. The peach and guava trees bore enormous bushels of juicy fruit, and our table was always graced with the produce from our garden. Those are the foods I grew up on. The famous Israeli salads have remained fond memories of my childhood. Indeed, I was the beneficiary of a cuisine that has become legendary for its healthfulness. The Mediterranean diet consists of cuisines from the entire region, from Spain and Italy to North Africa. Couscous and falafel are staples in Israel to this day, as are the olives and fish from the sea. Fortunate is the person who loves the clean, robust flavors of the region, the fruit kissed by the sun, the goat cheese and sesame seeds. The diet is a rich cornucopia of the earth's goodness. I came to the United States in my teens, and have studied nutrition and psychology. After many years of experimenting and struggling with my weight, I arrived at a few principles that have shaped my thinking. This book is the result of my experiences over the past few years. I lives in Florida with my husband, where I continue to write and speak on some of my favorite topics, including the Mediterranean diet, finance and philosophy. I am currently working on a fictionalized memoir.

I spent thousands of hours trying to teach people how to be healthy. Unfortunately, I just couldn't make a good living at it. Today, as a Registered Nurse, I spend most of my time taking care of people who are suffering from the effects of bad choices and bad advice. Americans know that they are unhealthy, but are so overwhelmed with advice, they don't know what to do. The options range from giving up on being healthy to institutionalized misery in the form of unpalatable meals and fake food.In the 1940's, advertisements for "Amphetamine Sulfate" (Uppers) told us how this pill would make us healthy. Pass.In the 1950's, fat shaking machines and swallowing tape worms were among the health advice. Ummm...Tapeworms....Uuhhh....In the 1960's, sugar substitutes and the "Drinking Man's Diet" (High protein washed down with a martini).In the 1970's, eggs were the enemy. No problem. Replace them with fake eggs (and the chemical storm they brought us).In the 1980's, Aspartame was supposed to thin us all down by replacing sugar. Didn't work. (Still popular though.)In the 1990's, "Fat-Free" was all the rage. The fat-free section almost took over our favorite grocery store. Again we found out that this was wrong.Then there were the pills. Remember fenfluramine? A cardiologist's dream.High Protien, Low Carb, Named after a doctor, Named after a famous beach, Caveman Diet, High Fat Diet, All Meat Diet, Vegan Diet, and so many more.Finally a dose of good advice. No pills, no fads, no starvation, nothing to buy, no more steamed veggies, nothing that appeals to a rabbit. Good solid advice that anyone should be able to follow. Yael Eylat-Tanaka has put together a simple, easy to maintain approach to overall health. An excellent read that opens up a world of optimum health through simple exercise, emotional clarity, and a time proven approach to food.

Just like we shouldn't sit around in front of a screen we shouldn't eat food as entertainment. Empty hours and empty food are bad for you.In a way this book is reminiscent of the ants and the grasshopper. The ants are active and are eating a variety of healthy foods and ... well ... the grasshopper isn't.Yael gives some solid advice and really in-depth knowledge in a way anyone can understand. At the same time she really makes you interested in eating healthy and being active.
