By Dan DeFigio As an experienced author, I can safely say that Meditation is not easy to write about. Leslee Mathieson has done a wonderful job encapsulating the importance of meditation, the amazing effect it has on your brain's function, and -- most importantly -- the action steps for an introduction to basic meditation practice. You couldn't ask for a better intro book; this one has it all: Stress and cortisol, how meditation affect (and improves) your brain, steps to heart-centered breathing, erasing fears and anger, and some walkthroughs of overcoming specific fears and problems.5 Minute Meditations is geared towards professionals in the workplace, but it makes an excellent intro to meditation for anyone interested in reducing stress and learning how to clear your mind.=====-Dan DeFigio, author of The Two Week Transformation

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Finally meditation that does require large amounts of time By Barb C. i found this book to be very comprehensive from two perspectives. The first was how stress and life's situations work negatively on the body and mind, and finally meditation techniques that work and only take five minutes if that is all you have available, though longer sessions can be even more beneficial.The author, Leslee Mathieson, has over 33 years experience using meditation and comes across as very knowledgeable on techniques for dealing with many of life's challenges. The introduction is an unfortunate story that will help you to consider if meditation just might help you. The other opening sections deal with the author's qualifications and experience and the benefits of meditation including phycological impacts and and the positive impacts on the brain.The rest of the book is set-up so that it explains a particular problem you may have and provides a five minute meditation exercise that will help you solve the problem. I found it easy to find a situation that I could relate to and started the meditation exercises right away. I have received a solution to a problem I have been having within a week. I attribute this to the simple approaches outlined and the small amount of time you need to get to work solving your problem.I have been meditating for about 15 years but it has always been a start and stop thing due to most of the meditation instructions in books trying to get you to extend your sessions to 30 minutes or even an hour. I am aware that after a lot of practice you can train yourself to meditate longer though this book provides what you need to work on your brain and any problem you have in a much shorter time period.A well written and researched book that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in getting there mind to aid in solving problems and an approach to meditation that everyone with a small amount of will power will benefit from. Highly recommended.
