About the Author Loreen Niewenhuis has lived in Michigan for most of her life. Her first book, A 1000-Mile Walk on the Beach, spent time on the Heartland Indie Bestseller List. I have learned more about my home state of Michigan through her adventures. It is always a better read when the author is intelligent, thoughtful, and has a sense of humor. A nice read By SRB it was good but there is a lot of history on the Manitou islands and I would have liked a little more of that instead of piping plovers . I guess its her book and it is what it is .I'm glad I read it but I would have liked to read about her hiking and camping on the more remote places of the islands and describe the terrain .But she did a good job with what she did do .The people were interesting
