With 420 full sized, easy to follow, movement by movement illustrations painstakingly cropped and sized for viewing simplicity, this handbook breaks down 40 of the most common assaults you may encounter in the Real World. There are no flashy, unrealistic Tournament Karate Routines here! Consider this … You are walking from the store with goods in one hand, fumbling for your car keys in the other, thinking about your day at work, you just want to go home. Your concealed weapon is well concealed and your pepper spray is in your pocket. Out of the shadows from four feet away you are attacked … what do you do? Don’t kid yourself! Modern karate and MMA are sports. Point Fighting and One-Step Sparring is worthless in the real world and submissions belong in the safety of the ring. Remember, bad guys do NOT fight one-on-one. The “Counter, Catch, Carry” series illustrates tried and proven techniques and combinations in detailed, step-by-little-step, with well explained and easy-to-follow full page photographs. Martial art skills are not required and all movements are joint friendly and based on T’ai Chi Self-Defense. Old, young, gals, guys, business professionals and factory workers … everyone can benefit from this series. Written by a 10th Degree Black Belt in Combat Kempo and T’ai Chi Grand Master with actual experience, “Counter, Catch, Carry” is the most practical and efficient self defense handbook ever produced.

By day, he sings his throat raw busking, and by night, he uses his coin to gamble--cheat--wealthy men at the pier tavern. It looks like he might succeed too . . . until he bets against pirates. Soon, Aaron finds himself indebted to two men—a pirate prince with a sinister smile and more sinister secrets; and Captain Bjorn, whose deep brown eyes and disarming smile make sinister seem . . . sweet.

I was a huge fan of Bjorn and loved his character. the story had a lot of mystery and intrigue and I highly recommend the book. I can't wait to see what happens next in this world. While this was a standalone novel I do recommend reading the previous books in the series before this as a lot of things are linked in the books and it's interesting to connect all the novels.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An Excellent and Personal Chronicle of the Baby Boomer Generation. By G. Andrew Boush I was born in 1964, so although I'm a Boomer, I was too young to attend Woodstock, couldn't go to a Disco until Disco died, and wasn't around yet when Kennedy was shot. Nevertheless, I grew up steeped in all of these things, and the central themes of Rick Bava's book, namely Aging, and the redefining of Aging as our generation manages to grow older in good health, the loss of parents, friends, and loved ones, and the passing of the world you knew and loved into memory, resonate strongly with me, for I am experiencing these problems as much as the older members of my cohort. The book reminds me of two other books I enjoyed in the past: Studs Terkel's "The Good War", and a book by Andy Rooney about people and their jobs that I think was called "Working", but can't seem to find. In each case, and in Rick Bava's book, the author went around the country talking to people about the subject at hand, then told their stories. There is a tremendous immediacy to this, and in each person's story we can hear things that we relate to as people. In Rick's book, if you were around in the 50's, 60's, and 70's, you'll find a great deal to relate to in these people's stories.I would strongly recommend "In Search of the Baby Boomer Generation" to any member of the Baby Boomer generation, or anyone interested in the subject of Aging in the 21st century.

By David Delp In August of 1972, I found myself at the University of Wisconsin - Madison living in the Elm Drive B dorm - across the hall from a young tennis prodigy named Rick Bava. Rick and I became good friends thru college but when that ride ended, we lost touch. We did, as all Baby Boomers do, go on with our lives. About a month ago, I ran across Rick on Facebook and LinkedIn and decided to reach out to him. In the course of a long phone conversation, I learned that he had written a book about our generation and I promised him I would read it and post a review. Well, I finished the book - and here's the review. I really, genuinely liked it. I didn't like it because an old friend had written it. I liked it because it is a marvelous encapsulation of these BabyBoomer lives we all share. For me, the book took me on a journey that was my journey - similar in many ways to Rick's - but different. What I found though, unexpectedly, was that my journey has been incredibly similar to the ones of so many others of my generation. Rick's narrative takes the reader on a ride full of stops he or she can completely identify with. The halcyon days of college and the dreams and freedom of your 20's. Marriage, kids, jobs, loss, retirement fears, financial uncertainties - all in the context of a viewpoint of a generation shaped by hope, war, cultural upheaval and vast technological advancement. Rick's story, told so often from his experiences, is our story. It is an Amercian story - and ultimately, a story full of hope. I had no idea that my friend, Rick Bava, could weave such a tail of inspiration. What a remarkable exercise in sharing his insights for the betterment of us all. Pick up the book and read it. You will find 100 places where Rick is telling your story, examining your thoughts and fears, and in the end opening your eyes to the knowledge that you're surrounded by friends.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Want to know all that's important to the most groundbreaking generation in US history? Get this book. By Boomer Expert Anyone who wants to know anything relevant about our generation can depend on this book for it. What makes it that much more important as a Baby Boomer "text book" is Bava's smart decision to go directly to us...and ask. I can't think of a better marker of our mindset, our values, our concerns. Research is fine...and valuable...but every so often some smart person like Rick Bava comes along who understands that we must also, as the saying goes, get it from the horse's mouth...no, not Mr. Ed....although as one of the goofiest classic TV shows of our era, would've been great to hear from him, too! Bravo, Bava, you done good!

“Pushing the Ugly Out” is a lighthearted memoir of my life. It takes my reader on a journey through my experience of Massage Therapy School. Upon my enrolling into the program I initially just wanted to hide from my pain. I had tar covered memories stalking me and snatching my breath middream. With hurt stuck to my skin and the aftertaste of betrayal still fresh, I decided I would hide out in the school. However, the very place I went to hide would bring out memories of an lifelong, and alone journey. I never expected to make it through the program. The odds were certainly stacked against me. I was single, three children, one of which was a newborn, I had no car, and my water was being disconnected. I had one pair of shoes I wore everyday. They were old, smelly, and really embarrassing. Yes, I was alone, or was I. It wasn’t until the end of the program. I started to FEEL God as I never had before. Sure, I had spoken with him. I had witnessed an act of kindness from a stranger, and have occasionally heard his voice, but never had I felt God the way I did at the end of my story. Much like the poem footprints, I was convinced he had abandoned me just like my father, and daughter’s fathers’. It was at the moment when I actually completed something that I looked back and realized that He carried me too. He loved me that much.

She didn't just "push the ugly out" she found her power, her courage, her beauty...but most of all she found her God given gift to inspire and restore faith through the art of writing! This author is the real deal...read her work and get ready to be transformed!

First, I applaud Naysay for sharing her secrets, her shame, her pain and most of all, her tenacity to fight depression, betrayal and hardship. Secondly, I admire the way she keeps talking to God through it all, in spite of her circumstances; this is a strength that God fearing believers such as my self rely on daily. Lastly, "Pushing the Ugly Out" will have you thinking about the ugly that lives in each of us, it will made me tear up, but I couldn't keep myself from laughing as well, as Naysay describes some of her characters. Naysay shows us how she is healing by releasing the toxic chemicals from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet. I really, really enjoyed this book! I am waiting for the next one!!!!!!:~)

It totally captivated my attention and I could visualize the story as it was unfolding. I cried and prayed for this dear precious soul of a woman. She poured her heart and soul into this book of her life. She is an Overcomer in Jesus name. Her testimony of what she's been through will inspire many women who are going through where she has been. My heart goes out to her and the many women who endure such tragedies in their life BUT with Jesus make it to VICTORY! HALLELUJAH!

Born into a world his heart knows as beneath him, an extraordinary boy becomes a man of music, hopeful that someday he’ll find a way higher. As the first day dawns, a world comes awake, order and disorder striking a dangerous balance. Under the stars, a princess and tailor trade age-old lore, little dreaming of the future that could trap them in the past. All of it in, around, and far above the timeless trees of Wilderhark, the forest whose secrets reveal themselves slowly, if ever at all. Tales of beginnings. Tales of quests for belonging. Most of all, tales of true love. Once upon a time, you knew something of Wilderhark’s tales. Now for the stories that fall in between. ~ The Sky-Child and Other Stories (A Wilderhark Tales Collection) ~

The Sky-Child: A Wilderhark Tales Collection (The Wilderhark Tales), by Danielle E. Shipley

About the Author Danielle E. Shipley’s first novelettes told the everyday misadventures of wacky kids like herself. ...Or so she thought. Unbeknownst to them all, half of her characters were actually closeted elves, dwarves, fairies, or some combination thereof. When it all came to light, Danielle did the sensible thing: Packed up and moved to Fantasy Land, where daily rent is the low, low price of her heart, soul, blood, sweat, tears, firstborn child, sanity, and words; lots of them. She’s also been known to spend short bursts of time in the real-life Chicago area with the parents who homeschooled her and the two little sisters who keep her humble. When she’s not living the highs and lows of writing, publishing, and all that authorial jazz, she’s probably blogging about it at EverOnWord.wordpress.com.

By Aisazia -- SPOILERS --I am fortunate enough to grab an ARC of this book and if you're a fan like me then I think you'll enjoy this book! I'd like to start with mentioning these stories are for readers who want more of The Wilderhark Tales so if you've read a majority or all of the books then you'll be quite fine reading all these stories and learning more about your favorite characters. We have a total of 9 tales in this book, in case you were curious since it's not really listed anywhere. The two longest stories are the second story and last story, both feature my favorite Gant-o'-the-Lute.Song-o'-the-LuteThe first story is the story is a little song about Lute and his lute. It's cute and poetic. The Sky-ChildNow the second story is what I had hoped to read in The Song Caster so I was happy to find it here. However, I didn't love the voice of the writing as much because there seemed to be a lot of telling of back history which I liked well enough because I got to see more of Lute but sad because of his life situation and I just didn't feel as engaged with the story or characters. It seemed like a darker side of them which I am not used to seeing and surprised me.Holy crap. I love the idea of the place in the story called Carillon. I'd definitely would go there for vacation if I could. Seemed like a rockin' place to go if you wanted to make music. (Eh? Eh? ^_~) lolOk, I've been mulling this over a little. I didn't quite enjoy the love at first sight for Lute but laughed at Viralei's response. It only upset and irritated me that Viralei had been turned into a harp just because she turned Lute down. I completely understand why she did and she had the right to turn him down. No, she didn't do it diplomatically but the punishment didn't fit the crime. To result in her punishment for sort of insulting his pride and saying no to a strange man's advances who trespassed into her personal space seemed more than unfair. The feminist in me couldn't handle that. There's no freedom of choice if she's transformed against her will and forced to get kidnapped and saved only by him. I felt like she was forced to fall in love with him because he saved her. Also he forced his kiss on her while she was a harp and immobile. He didn't ask, just did it without her permission but she enjoyed it which I guess forgives it? Those things really put me off. I'm not sure if the author did that to speed things up but maybe the execution just work for me.I just didn't find that romance believable and Viralei was ultimately useless in the story when it came to the escape. Once she had been saved she was all willing to throw herself at him which also irked me. Those things prevented me from fully enjoying the story because these two were one of my hopeful favored couples in the series. I know the author is capable of creating fantastic princesses and I wanted to like Viralei much more than I did in this story. The other couple I love is Edgwyn and Rosalba, who are perfect as is. :)Still BrokenI enjoyed this story, it shows the psychological aftermath Sula went through after her spell was broken. Like the great doctor caring Villem is there to help her recover.Day BrokenA glimpse of a moment in Sigmund's life while human.Skie WelduwarkI thought this story was fascinating. It's the author's version of how the world had been created by her characters. You'll get to see how the Sun became the master of the Four Winds. You get to see more of the relationship between Raeoryn and Lumond and how Raeoryn wants and needs to be in control of everything.StarheartThis story is sweet and takes place right before Rosalba meets Walzscoria's prince and it's cute and romantic. All I can say is Edgwyn is a sweetie. The Shining SonIt actually made me dislike Raeoryn more when before I felt fairly indifferent to him. You see how overbearing the Sun can be over everything and I totally didn't expect the end. 0.0;; Didn't think he was the type to do that. You'll just have to read it to know what I mean and it made my jaw drop. lol It's changed my perspective of him and the winds.AffectedThis takes place in The Seventh Spell. I loved the perspective of the children but I'm surprised because I thought they would have known the ordeals their parents went through. Didn't quite understand the little scene between Lute and Edgwyn because it didn't really seem important to me.A Gallivanting SoulI got a little confused with this story at first. It was only when I re-read it did I finally catch on! I'm not sure when it took place at first but then I realized they were scenes from a memory. Holy crap! That's a lovely end and I love it to itty bitty pieces!Overall, I enjoyed all the stories no matter how long or brief! Even with that little blip in the second story. (Sorry for the little rant but I needed to share my opinion about it, even though not everyone may agree.) I am curious as to what happened to the witch in the story as she appeared and disappeared during the books and makes an appearance in one or two of these stories.I do want to note that there isn't a chronological order to these stories so you could read them out of order. If you've read all the books you could probably match each story to a moment in time of the books if you wanted. :D I ended up just doing that in my head. lolThe pacing is good but some of the stories were only two pages long. They all read quickly so I wouldn't be surprised that you could read them all in a sitting or two. The writing is good but to me it didn't read as well edited or polished as the author's previous works. Then again, I can't complain. I am ecstatic to see some of my favorite characters again and I loved seeing the history behind some of my favorite characters and the various scenes in between the stories. If you ever wanted more of The Wilderhark gang, especially Lute, the Denebdeor Family, and the Welken then you won't go wrong with these stories! Highly recommended if you're a fan of The Wilderhark Tales or of Ms. Shipley!3.4 out of 5 rating for me!(A copy was provided for an honest review. I was not compensated in any other way.)

Brief as the brush of fingers on strings, it is a worthy opening to this compilation, and worthy of mention. (Clearly it was so worthy I was overcome with its worthiness.)~ The Sky-Child ~The longest tale herein--and the aching, melancholy beginning to the life of one Gant-o-the-Lute. Long before rescuing Villem Deere on The Seventh Spell's roads, or destroying unnatural rock formations in The Song Caster, the incredible bard's life brimmed with music and yearning, sweetness and sorrow, and a remarkable fight against the mundane. A spin on Jack and the Beanstalk like no other, the giant is the least of the difficulties the minstrel-in-blue takes on. As a tiny taste of its quality, I give you the excellent reworking of the traditional fee-fie, foe-fum folderol."Fie!" said the roar. "Is it a foe who's come?Do I smell the blood of a mortal man?If foe he be, his life's the feeFor venturing here to challenge me.If man he be, his life's blood redAnd bones will spice my stew and bread."This may be my favorite story in the whole collection, but the last gives it some competition. I suppose that, as cruel as it sounds, the suffering of the incredible simply takes my breath away. But then, 'The suffering of the incredible' might be a line to suit most of the tales here seen.~ Still Broken ~A hundred-word jaunt back to Sula and Villem.~ Day Broken ~A vignette set just before Swan Prince's opening chapters.~ Skie Welduwark ~A vibrant myth of the kings of the sky and the world's waking. I find that I always love following the (often harrowing) antics of the Welkens. Perhaps it's one of those just-human-things.~ Starheart ~The two intertwined hearts of The Stone Kingdom exchange enchanting tales under a starlit sky. A myth of how the stone kingdom came to be, and a myth of the forging of Wilderhark's nations are tailored around a gentle conversation, humming with love.~ The Shining Son ~A story with the regular beat of a fairy tale, of pride and jealousy in the heavens. I also get to see my favorite sneaky wind working terrible deeds, so this is a win for me.~ Affected ~Set first behind the stone eyes of Denebdeor's children, we watch the chaotic beginning of The Seventh Spell unfold--then on to the woman behind the curtain, as it were, the witch behind most of the magic in The Wilderhark Tales. Then to Gant-o-the-Lute, and a quiet conversation with Edgwyn, of love and hope in the dark of night. And back at last to the thoughts of the children, awaiting the breaking of the seventh spell's tangle.A mini-anthology in itself, this short story following the seventh spell's affected suits the sound of this collection perfectly; passionate, funny, sweet, melancholy, and hopeful.~ A Gallivanting Soul ~A lute's music tells its owner a tale known to it alone, bringing the string of stories full circle and tears to my eyes--tears for love forever lost, and tears for treasure found.*****Seamlessly woven together in perfect order, this Wilderhark Tales collection can stand proudly next to any of the novellas. (A good thing, too; as book six-and-a-half, it will likely stand between The Surrogate Sea and the series' final volume.) D. E. Shipley's prose is beautiful and melodic, almost lyrical, her characters as lovable and exasperating as ever, (you know I'm looking at you, Lute--and a fine view it is, too,) and her wit as charming as ever.A fantastic anthology for any readers, workable as a standalone, the abundant easter eggs would nonetheless be most appreciated by readers of the previous six Wilderhark novellas.

Lovely new fairy tales By Jocelyn Koehler The Sky-Child and Other Stories is the latest offering from Danielle Shipley, and serves as an entry into the world of the Wilderhark Tales. This is a land rich in music, deep forests, fairy tale overtones, and overlapping stories that weave together into a larger narrative. The focus of the title story is Jackillen Gant, a boy unsure of his parentage but very sure of his natural gifts. He receives a lute and becomes a wandering minstrel. Then — as all excellent wandering minstrels do — he falls in love with a princess, encounters powerful magics, and uncovers secrets kept closer than he imagines. The prose is filled with lilting phrases and many songs. But the characters are recognizably human: children act childish, teenagers are impatient. Emotions like pride, regret, and sorrow all play a role as the stories spin out.Shipley does a fine job of interlocking each tale to the others while preserving the character of each. There are many nods to traditional stories, from Jack and the Beanstalk to Swan Lake. There are even touches of older mythologies, such as during the passage that describes the creation of the Four Winds. But these stories still feel original and fresh, just different enough to keep readers on their toes. They take bits and pieces of their fairy tale roots without becoming ensnared in them. Shipley blends happily-ever-afters with lingering sadness and hints of a deeper history, leaving the reader to wonder “yes, but what now…” And that’s a very pleasant place for a reader to be, especially when there are more books to read.

For years, psychologist and author Vanessa Ann Vigilante, PhD, suffered from both a chronically stuffy nose and lower back pain.

Finally, after enduring unnecessary misery, Vigilante decided to do something about her chronic allergic rhinitis—and cleared up her lower back pain in the process!

Now, Vigilante shares what she discovered with the hope of helping the millions of other Americans who unwittingly compromise their own musculoskeletal health and comfort because of untreated or undertreated seasonal allergies.

In her pamphlet, Vigilante walks readers through the ways that improper breathing affects our bodies—all the way down to a cellular level. Instead of promoting a particular medication or treatment, she informs and equips readers to start a conversation with their physicians about the ways that untreated allergic rhinitis might be adversely affecting them.

Using clear, accessible language, Vigilante explains essential physiological principles, backing up her claims with scientific evidence. The result is a pamphlet that provides an eye-opening look at how finely tuned our bodies are—and how even something as seemingly insignificant as a stuffy nose can throw the homeostasis of the body’s systems into jeopardy.

Chambers When I saw the title of the book, I scoffed at the idea of connecting two completely unrelated medical issues. But after suffering from back pain and sciatica for the past twenty years and undergoing seven major spinal surgeries, I'm willing to at least listen to any theory about back pain. In this short book, author Vanessa Vigilante describes how nasal congestion - typically caused by allergic rhinitis (a fancy term for allergies) - can lead to poor breathing habits that in turn can result in back pain. It sounds like a reach to connect the two issues, but in fairness to the author, she built her case logically and with a bibliography of supporting data.According to Dr. Vigilante, untreated chronic nasal congestion often leads to poor breathing habits, notably breathing through the mouth (bad) instead of through the nose (good). Mouth breathing can in both direct and indirect ways cause changes in the body that lead to muscle tension and pain. The cure, according to Dr. Vigilante, is to treat the nasal congestion with certain drugs that have proven their effectiveness, then to retrain yourself to breathe properly through the nose. In my own case, the underlying reasons for my back problems were spinal stenosis and a degenerative spinal disease, but I know that for many people who suffer from back pain, there is no obvious clinical cause. The theory presented by the author, as well as her proposed treatment, sounds almost too simple to be true, but the book includes references to recent studies that have linked chronic low back pain with breathing disorders. In my opinion, the book is well worth an hour of your time.

I really appreciate the way Vanessa shares her personal story of how she discovered the link between two chronic symptoms. This neat little book is a quick and refreshing read and highly recommended for anyone suffering from nasal congestion and back pain. Allelujah!!

Excellent resource By Lydia This pamphlet is an easy read and presents some interesting connections between breathing and muscle tension.Dr. Vigilante explains how mouth breathing--which is something that so many of us do without realizing it--can contribute to muscle pain. Dr. Vigilante presents this in a surprisingly simple and logical manner and cites reputable sources (unlike all those websites out there). I liked how the author shares her own congestion and back pain story, and how she made the connection between the two. This pamphlet has made me more aware of how breathing mechanics influence the body's functioning. I learned that mouth breathing doesn't just affect our muscles, but contributes to a large number of physical and mental conditions. I found Dr. Vigilante's pamphlet to be a valuable resource in helping me work towards adopting a more pain-free and tension-free lifestyle. I recommend this booklet it to anyone who is interested in seeking relief from ailments such as muscle pain, anxiety, headaches, dizziness, and fatigue.

I was a Beached WhaleHow I lost more than 60 pounds - fast and efficiently - and this is how you can do it too!I have always been a “doughboy.” Apart from whatever opinion I had of myself, I saw it in the eyes of others.I started off the year 2014 at a weight of 320 pounds. Keep in mind that I had reached my maximum “fighting weight” more than a decade earlier, when I loaded my scale with a total of 350 pounds.Meanwhile I now weigh less than 240 pounds. It has been more than 20 years since my scale last indicated that number. Does that mean I should still be considered a beached whale? Well, objectively speaking you may say this is a clear yes. My BMI (body mass index) is still located in a region that is commonly considered to be pathological. Whereas I feel downright slim when I think of all the way I have come in the endeavor to optimize my weight. After all it seems to be that overweight is a relative term. There are three reasons I am writing this book. First of all, I am really thankful for having found a way to slim down. I am maintaining my weight and I know that I can always go ahead and lose some more pounds whenever I feel ready for it. By writing this book I would love to share this experience with others and express my gratitude to all those who told me about the diet.I am convinced that this method can bring satisfying results to anyone, whether they may want to get rid of those few extra pounds gained during the holidays, or a lot more. You should give it a try.On the other hand, by writing a book I am working on a policy to combat my weaker self. With all those people in mind, who are so well informed about how I lost weight and that I actually did it, I am going to think twice before putting it back on again. After all it is about my very own personal concern. I`d like to clear up a few things before I go on. In my opinion things are just being handled wrong here. The whole issue of weight loss is being captured by three huge business sectors offering a wide range of products and services. Some keep suggesting that all you have to do is ingest the correct pills or powders, or drink the right shake, and all is well. Some just cut off all those parts of the body that are deemed to be unsatisfactory. The third business insists on sports and physical education being the overall cure. As a professional coach I have come to realize that I will have to take the personality of a person into account if I want to help him or her to diet successfully, and later maintain their newly-gained size. Some people actually achieve this by themselves, while others need help to get there. In I was a Beached Whale you will learn:

  • My story, how I lost more than 60 pounds
  • A proofen way how you may do the same or even more

Ragnar uproots his six gifted children and go looking for Himmel that leads to an extraordinary adventure. The adventure is like going from one fairy-tale to an other as they meet dwarfs, giants and there is even a castle in the sky. Ragnar does not know his youngest son has magic powers that others seek. The family goes through many trials as they cross lands not knowing if the locals are friends or foe. If you like unusual fairy tales with happy ends then this fantasy is for you.

GENRE: Children’s Adventure (An Unofficial Minecraft Book for Kids Ages 9 - 12 (Preteen) Life is strange when you’re a skeleton, and no one knows that better than Sam. Although there isn’t much difference between the boys and girls physically, the boys always seem to get treated better, get more opportunities, and pretty much just get to do whatever they want while the girls are stuck at home. Sam’s sick of having an unfair life as a lady, so when she gets a letter asking her to join the skeleton army for the annual Halloween skeleton war, she’s quick to take them up on the offer. There’s a few problems, though: the skeleton army is hardcore, scary, and deadly. Also, girls aren’t allowed in the army in the first place, making Sam’s life even harder. In her diary, Sam writes about her struggle with being in the skeleton army. However, she refuses to be treated like a weakling. She does everything that can can to get ahead in her ranks and prove to everyone that girls are just as good as boys, even if no one can tell that she is a girl in the first place. How will Sam fare in the battles? Does she have what it takes to be a good skeleton soldier? Which side will win the war? To find out the answers to these questions and more, read The Diary of a Soldier Skeleton: The Skeleton War. "Their love scenes are steamy and deliciously intense, and they are tethered to each other in a way that springs off the pages, ensnaring you in their bond." –RT Book Reviews From New York Times bestselling author, Katy Regnery, comes a tale of regret, betrayal, kidnapping, loss, madness, abuse, passion, love. In this modern retelling of Hansel and Gretel, thirteen-year-old foster children Griselda and Holden escape from their abductor after three years of brutal captivity, and try to cross the Shenandoah River on foot. Tragically, one of them makes it to safety, but the other is left behind. Ten years later, Griselda's boyfriend drags her to a fight club grudge match, and her world is turned upside down when she watches Holden step into the ring. Though the connection between them is fierce, bitter regret, simmering rage, and a tangle of physical and emotional scars lie between them, just as dangerous as the white water of the Shenandoah. Never Let You Go is a story of fear and hope, defeat and survival, and two people--once profoundly broken--who discover that love is the only thing that can make them whole again. **Due to profanity, scenes of physical abuse and very strong sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18. (Note: Children are not sexually abused in this book.)** All novels in the ~a modern fairytale~ collection are written as fundraisers. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ Never Let You Go is part of the ~a modern fairytale~ collection, which includes six standalone, completely unrelated novels inspired by beloved fairy tales: The Vixen and the Vet (Beauty & the Beast) - available now Never Let You Go (Hansel & Gretel) - available now Ginger's Heart (Little Red Riding Hood) - available now Dark Sexy Knight (Camelot) - available June 2016 Don't Speak (The Little Mermaid) - available 2017 Swan Song (The Ugly Duckling) - available 2017 Love my fairytales? Never Let You Go (a modern fairytale), by Katy Regnery

Review ~ "Regnery offers a modern twist on Hansel and Gretel, intertwining the fairy tale with a star-crossed lovers theme...Their love scenes are steamy and deliciously intense, and they are tethered to each other in a way that springs off the pages, ensnaring you in their bond." --RT Book Reviews, 4.5-stars ~ "I have no idea when this book will stop holding my heart hostage but even though this book-hangover is fierce, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way." -- Dottie D'Amour, Rave and Rant about Raunch ~ "It's a heartbreaking yet joyous and uplifting tale of unconditional and truly selfless love. And it's the kind of happily ever after that fairytales are made of." --Ruth, Blithely Bookish~ "I feel this novel is a stunning achievement; so deep, intense and moving. I was blown away by it, and the characters resonated for a long time after I finished!" -- Tessa Shapcott, former Mills & Boon editor ~ "Staying true to her tag line, this book is a little bit heat, a little bit sweet with a whole lot of HEA, but this time there is also a little bit of darkness and angst done well." -- Jaime, Fan Fiction Book Reviews~ "These two are beautifully complex and superbly developed characters in that you experience their growth and transformation as the grapple with their fierce love for each other..." -- Suzanne, Slut Sistas Book Reviews~ "I applaud Ms. Regnery for this outstanding and remarkable story. I wish she could have seen me as I read the final words delivering to her a standing ovation for Never Let Me Go." --Tami Talbert, The Book Enthusiast~ "I have so many feelings after reading this book and all of them amount to a fantastic 5 star read." -- Micky, Jo & Isa Love Books

From the Author Dear Reader,This book is a bit of a departure for me. It's dark. Not midnight black dark, but there is some serious darkness in this book. There is also...Regret.Betrayal.Abduction.Loss.Madness.Abuse.Passion.Reformation.Forgiveness...and True Love. ♥This book is part of the same series of standalone modern fairytales that includes The Vixen and the Vet, and like The Vixen and the Vet (which dealt with the real-life issues of war, IED injuries and the treatment of returning veterans) this story will be a good deal edgier than my Heart of Montana or Blueberry Lane books. However - of course, as always - I guarantee a happy ending.I hope you enjoy Holden and Griselda's story.Katyxoxo

19 of 20 people found the following review helpful. 3.5 Emotional Stars By Dirty Girl Romance "I missed you like crazy. I'll love you forever."When I first saw that blurb I knew that I had to read this book. It sounded angsty, emotional, and oh so beautiful at the same time. And after finishing reading it I can definitely tell you that it was all those things, and more. Never Let You Go was a heart wrenchingly beautiful story about soul mates that get reunited after ten years apart and a tragedy that marked them both. The entire time I was reading I had knots in my stomach. That alone should tell you something. This is a story inspired by Hansel and Gretel but it's with a brilliant spin. Holden and Griselda first met as foster children and formed a bond that tethered them together for life. When sent on an errand together by their foster mother, they get abducted and live through three years of brutal captivity and mental abuse at the hands of a monster. When they get the opportunity to run, tragically one of them doesn't make it and it irrevocably changes the course of both their lives."...she could not- she would not- give up on him until she knew for sure that he was dead. Until then, she would keep looking...because she owed him, because once upon a sweet and terrible time, she'd loved him, and he'd loved her in return."Griselda has never given up on searching for Holden. She's a shell of the person she once was; forced to live with crippling guilt over being free and knowing that Holden was left behind. She punishes herself with relationships that are empty and abusive. She doesn't believe she deserves to be happy. Not until she finds him and knows for sure if he survived or not.Her current boyfriend is no exception to this. The man is absolutely vile. While I want to say that this should have made Griselda weak or self pitying, it wasn't. Considering her past and what happened, it fits. Having her be any other way just wouldn't fit the story. So if you're expecting some sassy bad--s heroine, you won't find it here."Are you whole or broken?""I'm b-broken," he finally whispered. "But I think I could be whole again."Holden has believed Griselda dead all this time. He's not the boy that he once was. His heart died right along with Griselda and all that's left is the shell of man that feels through f-----g and fighting. When an underground fight brings these two together again, they're forced to confront the people that they became and try to heal the shattered pieces broken by their shared past. Both these characters have issues. Their past made sure of it and their present supported it. They may not be perfect, but they were perfect for each other."She's the bright sun. And he's the quiet end of day."If you're looking for a book that will make you feel and make you feel it hard, this is that book. Believe me when I tell you it's one of those stories that will stay with you for quite a while. It was just that powerful and beautifully written. So why 3.5 stars? It's tough to explain because it's a fairly spoiler so I'll try to be vague here I hate so be forewarned SPOILER AHEAD, absolutely loathe (pregnancy by the ow), and it doesn't matter how it's written because it never works for me. I'm talking make me want to throw my kindle at the wall or beat my head with it kind of hate. This is an extreme personal bias of mine and I struggled with my rating because of it. While I wanted to rate the book higher simply because it was an amazing story, this particular plot device managed to sour my enjoyment of it quite a bit. So much so, that I found it to be a very big part of the story while I didn't find it necessary to be. I just didn't believe that the story needed it, if that even makes sense. What was the ultimate nail on the coffin for me was the reasoning behind it and how it was resolved. I actually disliked that even more. (Though it's fair to note that there is absolutely positively NO cheating in this book)I loved the premise of this book and I truly loved the writing. Katy Regnery manages to wrench every single emotion from the reader from heartache, to tears, to lust, and a love so epic it gives you butterflies."For all my life- all my life- you have been my beating heart, the woman of my dreams.I really wish I could rate it higher but unfortunately my own bias just worked against this book way too much. As much as I tried to look past it, I just couldn't. Do I recommend this book? Absolutely! I really don't think it's a book that should be missed. Is this particular plot issue going to work for others? Sure. Like I said, this is a personal bias of mine and it doesn't matter how great a book is, it will always work against it. But even if you hate it just as I did, you'll still want to read this story. It was that touching. So while I may not have loved every aspect of it, it's certainly not a book I'll be forgetting any time soon

16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. A 5 star masterpiece By Sejla I was lucky to receive an ARC of this masterpiece which absolutely consumed me! After I finished it I was so overwhelmed. This book gave me all the feels. I can tell with absolute certainty that Never Let You Go is one of the most emotional and gut-wrenching love stories I've ever read. Katy Regnery left a permanent mark on my heart with this book that exceeded all my expectations.Be warned that this book is not an easy read and it's Katy Regnery's darkest book so far! It contains some very sensitive topics like abduction and abuse. I can assure you that she handled these topics very well, not many authors are able to do that. The author's writing is very captivating. Her words penetrate your heart and mind and you can't help but feel very connected to the characters and their story.Griselda Schroeder and Holden Croft were both foster children that were kidnapped at the age of ten by a mentaly ill man. He held them captive on his farm in his cellar until they both tried to escape three years later. Unfortunately only Gris managed to flee leaving Holden behind.10 years have passed. Griselda is living an unhappy life full of regret. She never stopped thinking about Holden. Now she is living together with her abusive and possesive boyfriend Jonah whom she doesn't love. She tolerates him because she believes that she doesn't deserve to be happy. Griselda is secretly saving money to find Holden and is only living because she needs to know what happend to the boy who made her life bearable when it should have killed her.Gris spends a weekend with Jonah in West Virginia where she is plagued with a lot of memories. One evening they attend a fist-fight where she unexpectedly meets Holden again. But Holden Croft is now Seth West and has grown into a handsome young man with a lot of tattoos and a broken heart.Holden is shocked but happy to see Gris again. He believed that Gris died while trying to safe them both. Since ten years his heart was dead because it died with her, the only girl he ever loved. The two of them decide to spent one month at a cabin in the woods and get to know each other again. Their chemistry is off the charts and they soon can't keep their hands from each other. Unfortunately their happy reunion is soon interrupted by some shocking news forcing these two apart again. Will these two finally find their way back to each other? In order to find out you need to read this amazing book!I loved Holden and Griselda. They are not perfect and flawless which makes them only human like all of us! Their struggles were realistic. They figured out that in order to be happy together they first needed to be happy with themselves. These two broken people inspired each other to grow and made each other whole again. Their love story is truly epic!Katy Regnery managed to break my heart with this book and put it back together. I would give this book 6 stars if it were possible. I highly recommend it to everyone!

21 of 24 people found the following review helpful. Good story. Just not my cup of tea. By MRay Let me start out by saying that the only reason Never Let You Go(NLYG) got a 3 star from me is because it was just not MY cup of tea.So, please do not think this will be a negative review involving a lot of criticism of the characters or the plot. In fact, I’m sure most readers will enjoy the story and the characters. I am just not one of them.NLYG has all the makings of a Lifetime movie. And that’s a good thing. It’s about Holden and Griselda (terrible name but I get the whole Gretel reference) and how they were kidnapped by a mentally disturbed individual and held captive for three years. Like the book blurb states, one of them got away and the other was left behind. This book is about their journey to finding each other and becoming whole again. Interesting right? The writing is very fluid and descriptive. There are a lot of flashbacks. These provide the reader with all the history. How Holden and Gris met and became friends. How they were each other’s safe place during their years in captivity. How when they were reunited…….well, I’m not going to spoil it for those of you who want to read this book. Trust me when I say that Holden and Gris will feel very much like real people. Why am I giving NLYG only 3 stars? Now there are very few authors (such as Kristen Ashley) who can hold my interest for more than 300 pages. And this book really did have all the elements necessary for a bestseller BUUUUUT imagine this-a book that is 450 pages in length and the H/h only meet, in present time, at the 25% mark (according to my Kindle). I’m all for building the tension and angst (yes, lots and lots and LOTS of it and some of it seemed contrived) but this was just a bit too much for ME. Still, I like to think that I'm not a quitter. So I kept reading hoping that the story would smooth itself out. It didn’t. At least until the point I stopped reading it. Yes, I did indeed quit. This was a DNF for me.So, that’s my review. And just to reiterate-this was more of a ME issue than a NLYG/author issue. I’m positive Never Let You Go will be a big hit. It just wasn’t with me.
