"Restrict 'evil' foods such as sugar, salt, saturated fat, grains, meat, and dairy." "Drink fluids beyond thirst, restrict calories below hunger levels, and exercise daily.""Eat unpalatable health foods like raw vegetables, chia seeds, and kale smoothies." Most of us have heard and used at least some of this advice from health and diet 'experts' to achieve our health, energy, and weight loss goals. But would you be so quick to follow their advice if you realized that it is based on short-term inconclusive science, bogus human history, and misunderstood human biology? The truth is that these 'diet rules' are (at best) nothing more than temporary band-aid solutions which only address superficial symptoms, but not the root cause. And ignoring your body's cravings, taste-buds, and thirst/hunger signals to chase these short-term results will lead to catastrophic long-term health consequences. In 'The Great Diet Deception' you will learn about how I destroyed my health by taking the advice of these so-called 'experts' and chasing short-term results. You will also learn the real root causes of ill-health that I eventually discovered through endless research and self-experimentation. Finally, you will learn how I fully recovered and achieved all of my health goals, and how you can too... by eating as much as you want and eating the foods that you love. Achieving great health, high energy levels, and a lean body is a lot easier (and more fun) than we have been led to believe!

I drank lots of water, reduced salt, and ate lots of vegetables. I tried to minimize excess calories to stay lean. After years of progressively training hard and following the nutritional wisdom of the day, I experienced gut issues, felt chronically tired, had cramps during races and was sleeping poorly. After following the advice in this book I finally started listening to what my body was telling me. I began to eat WAY more, drank less water, poured salt on everything and ate way fewer vegetables. My GI issues quickly improved, I had more energy, slept better and stopped getting cramps in races. By listening to my body and not depriving it of what it clearly needed, it became much easier mentally to train hard. I followed other recommendations in this book and have noticed subtle effects from doing so but the big breakthrough for me was throwing away what I thought I knew about nutrition and trusting my body to guide me towards what I needed. I wish I'd come across this book years ago. The personal stories that the author had from experimenting with different diets was cool too. Solid book!

By Ray Gowlett The most fascinating story and informative book I've read in a really long time! As an athlete who got started in the weight focused sport of wrestling, switched to mixed martial arts, and now dabble in cycling (probably the most weight obsessive sport I've been a part of), I can personally relate to many of Zak's struggles. I have been a teacher for 15 years, currently teaching health, nutrition and wellness, and never have I encountered one book that does such a great job tackling all of the questions and apparent contradictions that I've encountered in the 'science' of nutrition. When it comes to nutrition, I don't believe there is a 'theory of everything', or 'one stop shopping'.....but this book is as close as I've found. If you've been stumped by food science and don't even know what questions to start asking, let alone the answers, make this the first book you read.

It makes me deeply care about Zak's journey of finding his way back to a healthy body, because I can totally relate to him. Have tried so many different ways of dieting and almost all of them are some random people's random theories and of course none of them worked. The process of dieting is depressing and the facts they don't work depressed me even more.'Eating more calories', 'Eat more salt', ' don't over exercise' they sound counter-intuitive however they make so much sense after reading the thorough research and simple analogy. What I love about this book is it's focusing on longer term fitness and well being instead of short term weight loss at the expense of physical and emotional health. After reading this book I no longer feel guilty about satisfy my craving for salt and sugar and I started cooking my own meals, which make me a much happier person.Highly recommend this book to all the girls out there who handed their health to the devil of dieting illusion.
