A pampered pup takes center stage at her parents’ party in this charmingly hilarious picture book from film and Broadway star Nathan Lane (of The Lion King and The Producers fame) and Devlin Elliott!Meet Mabel, the fanciest French bulldog the Hamptons have ever seen. Mabel is many things: sassy, classy (and sometimes a bit gassy!), but especially...naughty! Mabel’s always getting herself into trouble—and with style like hers, can you really blame her? When Naughty Mabel’s parents throw a party and try to leave her out of the fun, of course she must take matters into her own perfectly pedicured paws. As the hilarity ensues, Mabel and her parents learn that through thick and thin, naughty or nice, they’ll always be a family, just as they are.

From School Library Journal PreS-Gr 2—If Eloise had been a dog, she would have been Naughty Mabel, the overprivileged, overindulged canine heroine of this picture book. Like Eloise's, some of Mabel's humor is best appreciated by the adults who will be reading aloud, as when Mabel describes her age ("five is the new three"), but many of her antics will resonate with youngsters who wish they could get away with driving a golf cart or applying their own touches to the artwork on their parents' walls. One way to divide the world is between those who believe their pets should be regarded as children and that they should be admired by everyone they encounter, and those who do not. People in the former camp will like this book. VERDICT An amusing, if additional, purchase.—Miriam Lang Budin, Chappaqua Library, NY

Review "If Eloise had been a dog, she would have been Naughty Mabel" (School Library Journal August 2015)"Mabel is somewhere between Fancy Nancy and Rotten Ralph, and her fashionable destruction is sure to charm little ones." (Booklist October 1, 2015)"A delightful confection...More Mabel, please." (The Chicago Tribune October 29, 2015)

Although the age range is 4-8, adults will easily find themselves laughing along with the kids. This is the first in a series, so look for more of Mabel's antics and personality to develop in books to come.

My next thought was: "Wait... THE Nathan Lane?" Answer: yes, the Broadway comedic genius probably most well known from The Producers (2001 Original Broadway Cast) and as the voice of Timon from The Lion King [Blu-ray] [UK Import]. From there, I couldn't help but hear his distinct voice as the voice of our heroine, Mabel. There are enough "darlings" (obviously read as: "daahlings") thrown in that it actually works quite nicely.Fans of Mr. Lane's humor will see it throughout the book (ex: "Snookieookums"). Adults and children alike will appreciate the antics of Naughty Mabel- who knows she's naughty but thinks she just spices things up to keep life interesting. Owners of spoiled dogs will recognize some of her annoying but endearing behaviors. And, if all that doesn't draw you in- there's a fart joke- which dog owners (spoiled or not) will certainly appreciate. All in all, a great buy and I hope we will be seeing more from Naughty Mabel!

As an owner of 2 very spoiled Frenchies myself, I pre-ordered this in March and it was worth the wait. The book is beautiful. Large and colorful, wonderful illustrations and a charming storyline. I had originally purchased this for my 5 year old niece, but it looks like I will need to buy another one because I'll be hanging on to this copy. I highly recommend this book for children and dog-lovers alike! Now if only I could get Nathan Lane to sign it!!
